OK I am a bit *miffed* bas to wear to post this so I will try this forum.

I have an Idea for a business and I was wondering what you all thought of it and what you all would think that would need to into this.

I am thinking about open a computer mod shop just mod supplies and etc.. Also the building I am looking at would allow a large LAN party area. I am just curious what you all thought of this and if such a place exisited would you come.

IMO it really depends on the the area and how you do it. You're going to have to live in either a really large area, or somewhere that has people heavily interested in doing the LAN thing. I'm not sure if you're talking about renting time on a comp for LAN or just letting peuple use the space as a LAN but that would take high traffic to make a profit.

As for modding supplies... I'd say if you could get the traffic from the LAN and are friendly/helpful enough with teaching you could sell some modding supplies. Overall I don't think this would be a good idea for a business ventrue, unless you really, really know what you're doing and teh area you're in.

I will still find it cheaper online.
If everyone thought like qbackin, stores like Circuit City and Best Buy wouldn't exist, so don't let that discourage you

problem with openeing a store like that is you are focusing on such a small sector of a large whole. your best bet would be doing a project like that online, but sites like that are a dime a dozen

This sounds like the kind of shop that built my friends computer. His parrents are paranoid and had to have a "profesional" build it. He is located just outside of Madison, WI and seems to be doing pretty well actually. In fact he just moved into a bigger/better building.

If you have the money up front for everything, it would be a sweet idea. I would have to agree though, you would need a large population, but nothing with a ton of competition. And if it fails, what could be worse then a ton of computer equipment for yourself? LoL....

If you want any more information just ask me. I know this guy pretty well and have seriously thought about joining up with him after college, but he kind of wants to keep it a personal hobby type of work.

Yes, YOU will and many other people will find it cheaper online. But you're forgetting the large population that is scared shitless of using a credit card online....

I shop at both places often. Thats not the point.
Sure its cool if your BB, or CC...But if your going to start some mom n' pop shop, you are going to have a hard time dealing with people buying PC parts online.

But all in all, good luck.

you have to get people there for the LAN first, then sell the mod supplies, but they have to be competitively priced, and maybe custom, otherwise people go elsewhere, maybe even free installation for the n00bs

either way, the LAN is the main attraction, no one sits in a football stadium to buy beer and hot dogs, they buy the game
