So, I haven't built a new system since my last one which has lasted me for four years, and have always had Intel systems. This is my first shot at building an AMD system and I would like some opinions. I'm working on a $550 budget for the motherboard, processor, case and memory. What I'm trying to do is build a system that will be decent for gaming as well as high end image editting.
COOLMAX CS-480-Black Black ATX Mid Tower Case - $40
MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - $117
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego - $267
1 GB (2x 512mb) dual channel RAM - $84.50
All together with shipping this will cost me around $570, which as you can see, is a tiny bit over my budget. I can save a lot by downgrading to an Athlon 64 3500+ Venice which would cost $219 instead of $267
The main reason I went with the 3700+ San Diego is that it has 1mb L2 cache rather than 512kb. Is $50 worth the upgrade?
Any other feedback is appreciated. As I said, I haven't built a system in a while, and have never built an AMD system at all.
