Hello,

I'm having trouble with IE and a couple of other browsers that I've tried with accessing a website. This is a company website and every other computer in the company and access the website except for this one computer. I thought that replacing the computer would fix the problem, but it didn't.

The computer is running Bell Business High Speed and Bell insists that it's not them. When I built the computer, the website was working fine and it passed all my tests, but it seems to have a mind of it's own at this location.

Any suggestions?
 
When you try to connect to the site what happens?

Check for adware/spyware.

Whats the site URL?

Can you ping the site?

Check your hosts file.
 
Hey,

The site can't be pinged even on the computers where the site works.
the site URL is www.robmcintoshchina.com
The computer was scanned with Adaware and Spybot and found nothing.
The hosts file looked normal. It just had 127.0.0.1 localhost.

Any more ideas?

Ok, Let me get this straight, you replaced the entire computer with another one because the original computer could not access a particular website and the replacement has the same problem?

That computer is using either a public or private IP that is being blocked somewhere.
 
Ya. The first computer did the exact same thing as this one.
So I figure that it has something to do with Bell.
Bell keeps saying that it isn't them though.
It got to the point where I had the store call Microsoft but they couldn't help.
This is really insane. They have a computer with Windows 2000 as well, and it can get on the website just fine.

I've been working on this for a while now. I'm glad that I'm not the only one having trouble fixing this.
 
Sounds to me like something is filtering the website... or blocking acess to it.

Is it just that 1 web page........ (i would assume)... or is it the whole internet?

Really odd... i wish i could be there to see this.
 
Yes. It's just the one website. I had the store try others such as yahoo, google, bread.com :). They all work.

The computers do ship out with Kerio WinRoute Firewall 5. It is programmed to block access to all other websites except the one that we want. When it got there and the Rob McIntosh site wouldn't work, I uninstalled Kerio thinking that it was setup incorrectly but the problem persisted.

How's about I pay for your plane ticket to go up there and fix it. lol
 
Is the computer using a public or private IP address?

What is displayed on the screen when you attempt to connect to the blocked website?
 
I beleive it's public.
When you try to connect to the website, it says "Website found, waiting for reply" but it stays there and the blue progress indicator climbs very slowly and stalls in the middle.
 
Try a tracert via a computer that *can* access that website, then tracert on the non working machine, compare the results to see where and if any packets are being dropped.

It may be a case where the website is hosted may have that particular IP blacklisted for some reason.

The computers that can access the website are stopped at the same spot where the computer that can't access it.

I had level 3 specialists and a crew of 5 network specialists working on it and they couldn't figure out. I think I'm screwed.

If both systems are stopped at the same point, then there is probably some firewall policy that restricts the icmp messages at that particular hop. Doesn't really amount to a whole lot since the computer than can access the website is stopped at the same point.

Have you checked with the webhost to see if they employ any IP blocking of any sort for their service or that particular site?
 
How is the computer connected to the DSL modem?

If it's thru a router, try connecting the computer directly to the modem. I've seen some weird stuff like this with cheap DSL modems. Bellsouth uses a lot of crap.

If the computer has a modem, can it dial up and access the site? Especially test if the ISP gives you a dial up account. That should definitely give your case some weight with them.

Nope. It's all clean.
I ran the Network Setup Wizard and now we actually get to the point where it says connecting, but it freezes there instead of at Website found, waiting for reply.

I asked my store contact to take the modem and everything connecting to the modem to our closest store and the modem and all the cables checked out. One thing that I found weird is that the enet and atm lights stayed on even when the computer was off.

I called our web host and had him give me some of the other web sites that he hosts and they all don't work, so I think we figured out that it's the server. I don't know what to tell him though because all the other stores connect just fine, and so does the computer with Windows 2000.

Any more ideas?

The computer is connected directly to the high speed modem via an ethernet cable.
I could arrange for a modem to be installed in the machine.
Do you think that if I connected through a modem, it would work?

Speaking of blocking webpages.

Now at home, every computer on my network can't access the following:

Hotmail
MSN.com
MSN Messenger

Microsoft.com checks out
Any ideas?

If it does then your issue is your broadband connection.

Do those domains resolve?

Start_Run/Type CMD/Enter

Type: nslookup hotmail.com

If you receive an IP then DNS is working. If not, your ISP is blocking the domain by DNS.

If you do receive an IP(s), type one into a browser and see if the page appears..
Then you'll know if your ISP is blocking those pages.

If it doesn't, install another browser like Firefox and try again.

Hotmail does resolve. I get the IP and try typing that into the browser and it doesn't budge.
I tried another browser and it does the same thing.
My computer went whacky yesterday. I had an annoying casino pollazio popup, a trojan dialer, Spybot found 51 problems, and zone alarm blocked 5 high risk attacks.

P.S. I disconnected my computer from the network and now all the other computers can access msn.com, hotmail, and MSN Messenger.
