Hey I'm looking for a new video card and I only have a PCI slot available. What is the best PCI card that will play the latest games and will continue to for a couple years?
 
None if you plan on using any decent amount of details/res. Time to buy a new motherboard if you dont have an AGP/PCI-Ex slot.
 
Um, not to be a complete jerk, and I do mean this with the utmost sincerity...

But if all you've got is a PCI slot for any kind of video, it'd be in your best interests to just dump the computer you're running, and get one that has AGP 8X on the board. That is, if you're looking to play the latest games and what not.

But, if you meant PCI-Express, then I think just about anything that's PCI-Express will suit you fine. But only, and I mean ONLY if you have PCI-Express.
 
I have an AGP slot, but it's an abnormal one (don't know the terminology or different AGP types) and won't fit normal AGP cards.

If it is an AGP slot, it will fit an AGP card. The only thing you have to watch for is newer boards that do not take older 3.3v AGP2x cards. Or possibly low profile cases that don't take full-height cards.
 
It's probably AGP Pro or a 2X or 4X slot that supports only 3.3V not the 1.5V that current AGP cards require. This link right here should tell you what you need to know, but even once you figure it out, nobody has made a 3.3V AGP card for awhile and you're probably much better off getting a GeForce 4 MX440 PCI or a Radeon 9250 PCI card.

AGP Pro slots support regular AGP cards. The extra power pins are not used by the AGP card. It goes where the L-shaped tab is on normal AGP cards.

An AGP4x slot support 1.5v signalling.
 
The computer is hp vectra vl800 dt. I just did some research and I believe I do have a regular agp slot now. Anyone confirm that?

Yeah, that model has an AGP4x slot.

The motherboard uses an Intel 850 chipset.
 
What do you mean when you say that "it's an abnormal one and won't fit normal AGP cards"?
