Right now I have a q6600 B3 @ 3.0 (1.38125v) w/ a Zalman 9700 idle/load is 40-45c/55-70c range depending on how hot my room is. How ever I like to bring them temps down with a better cooler. What Should I get? Links to zip/egg would be nice.

I do like your Zalman 9700, but do seem to get a bit more out of the one I just linked. It is a LARGE cooler though, as in tall. I've seen cases where the top was almost touching the side panel.

As an aside, this is the fan I put on it. There's a bit more powerful choices, but I wanted a blue LED fan I could connect directly to my motherboard's CPU fan header:

Use the same fan as my rear case fan, as an aside. Seems to move a decent amount of air at the "high" setting.

I love the look of the Sonic Tower 120 or w/e TT has >_>

the one in my Dell XPS Gen 5 looks like it would be good, Gonna nab it and test it out on my c2d
 
with the Tuniq Tower 120 CPU HSF i have read the reviews that a lot of users have to lap them as they are uneven but i do like the look of that cooler
 
Looks aside, the Ultima90 is equal to the Tuniq in terms of performance, and actually much easier to install. Also, its lighter and smaller.
 
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme wtih the "F" S-flex fan 1,600rpm. This fan is just as quiet as the E version when undervolted and will leave you some air flow in reserve when it starts to get to hot. I had the Zalman 9700 before the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and there is a huge difference in load temps. My idle temps were only a little better but the load temps are 8C cooler!
 
I very much recommend the Thermalright Ultra120. I know its been said before but im gonna chime in with my experience with it.
I bought one and put a coolermaster silent blue 120mm fan (1200rpm only) and overclocked my Q6600 to 3.6Ghz stably for 2 weeks running temps in the mid 60s idle and high 70s load.
While these are pretty hot temps (reason its running at 3.45 now), it is also an extremely high overclock. 1200Mhz over stock speeds. I was the fastest quad owner on the board for 2 weeks.

I did not lap this heatsink and i didnt even use arctic silver. its an incredible cooler and will be hard pressed to give it up for anything shy of a water set up.
 
I have a thermalright HR-01 and a Ultra 120 both on 3ghz quads and the HR-01 is a bit cheaper (~$10) and has lower temps by 3 deg C. Both keep my Quads (GO) below 50deg C @1.3v and Prime x4 with slow (1000rpm) fans
 
I just recently switched from the zalman 9700 to the Ultra 120 Extreme on my qx6700 and it dropped my temps 8-10 degrees across the board but where where this cooler butters the bread is at 3200. Temps are only 3-4 degrees warmer. The zalman idled at about 56 degrees at the speed.
 
The Ultra 120 eXtreme is one of the best. Tuniq and Ultima90 aren't far behind, and are also among the best. The new thing to check out is the Thermalright IFX14, for the people who like to spend a lot of money on good air cooling.
