Battle.net 2 Preview

I have no internet at home currently, if they still plan on leaving out LAN, then I'm passing on SC2.

yeah leaving out LAN is lame

why shouldn't i be able to play with friends in the same room??

it doesn't happen often but it's nice to have the option to do so

this is why they are leaving it out. Honestly, how often has you LANed in the last 5 years?

I think I did it 2 times in college.

Super excited! People really need to stop crying about the LAN part. Its done and over, either adapt like everyone else or fall behind... Blizzard isn't going to be missing the profits from 2% of players around the world that aren't connected to the internet, who are mostly likely going to pirate the game anyways....

What exactly makes you think you won't be able to play with friends in the same room?

I don't think the lack of LAN also enforces a minimum geographic distance between players, you'd just be sharing the same internet connection :p

I can't follow your logic. What would be stopping you?

I often (roommates) play WoW, CS, L4D, Aeon all in the same room on remote servers and it works fine. Why would Starcraft II be any different?

They wont let me use Battle.net at work, but I can LAN game. It has nothing to do with being connected to the internet, some of us either can't or refuse to use bnet. The game is pretty much a multiplayer game, why limit the multiplayer modes? That isn't evolution.

One question, how does one pirate a game when not connected to the internet? Are there still software swapmeets? Dark alley dealings? VCD copies of Terminator 2!!!

/facepalm

those who want to leave out LAN gaming are probably the same people who support matchmaking in CoD MW 2

Keep in mind ISP's cap bandwidth, being able toplay a game locally works out in favor of the consumer.

The beta is out this month, so I guess we'll get an Idea of how the "no lan" thing pans out in the real world pretty soon.

It'll probably work its way out.. I'm sure Blizzard will figure it out somehow.. they are really the last bastion of hope (well, one of them) for good games based on the PC.
