Ive been working on OC'ing my watercooled X2 3800+ on my DFI NF4 Ultra Infinity. My chip maxes out around 2.75Ghz at 1.55v, Im not having any problems with it. Ive got a pair of 512mb Crucial Ballistix PC4000. For some reason, it fails prime95 within one second, even at 240mhz 2.8v 2.5-4-4-10(thats SPD for 250mhz). It posts and gets into windows, but It isnt stable at all. I put a fan blowing on the sticks so they stay cool, and Ive tried more voltage. I took the CPU out of the question by dropping the multi real low. Im just overclocking the ram and motherboard now. Nothing seems to get these stable. Im not even overclocking them yet, and its not stable. Im out of ideas, and I really want to get this system running at what it should. Any ideas?
 
are they new? do you know that they work right on another system? sounds like you've got some bios setting really wrong or you need to rma them.

go to http://www.dfi-street.com and read the thread about memory settings, these helped me a lot.

Those settings there give me the problems. I dont have another system to test them in that will go up to their rated speed. Ive got a small fan blowing on them and they seem cool. They are in slots 1 and 2(the ones close to the CPU) Im pretty sure the latest bios is on it.
 
I'm going to piggy back on this thread. I am also having difficulty OCing this ram to 240 @2.5-3-3-10 (2.85) it passes 6 passes of memtest86, but fails superpi. I know its not my CPU b/c it is 24hr Prime stable and superpi stable. I guess I just got a bad stick or something.

there's the problem. use 1+3, the two orange slots

h2o, i would assume you have the same pc4000 512mb ballistix?

I dont have the Lan Party board, its the Infinity NF4 Ultra. The manual says dual channel will work in 1 and 2 or 3 and 4, not 1 and 3.
 
ooh, the infinity. my bad for not reading that before :(

well, since i haven't seen anything definitive on this board one way or another, try 1+3 anyway.
also, as soul said before, do you have another board, or even other ram to try, just to eliminate variables?
 
I actually have the PC3200. I'm not really able to let the memory go over 220@2.5-3-3-10@2.85V . I'm begging to think it might be a mb deal. I have my X2 stable @2.3GHz/1.44V but when I set the "FSB" from 231-239 it won't boot and brings up the raid detect screen even though I have that option disabled in the BIOS. I really would like to think that I didn't get crappy memory (even my kingston value ram OCed better than this) and that my board sucks (MSI K8N Neo2-F).

Their definition of 1 & 2 are actually 1 & 3. That is why the memory slots are color coded.
 
seems like I didnt have the latest bios afterall. I just tried to flash the bios to the latest one and now the PC wont boot at all.
