I'm looking for a backup software that can do automatic backups in the background when the computer is not in use and that will backup to a network hard drive or a USB hard drive. Also something that will send out notices of missed backups.

I know Acronis will be able to do this everything except for the email notifications.... or at least I am not sure if it does that.

But does anyone else know of any other good software?

Thanks.

Just FYI Acronis TrueImage v11 (not sure about earlier versions) supports email notification...

I recall that option being in at least the last few versions of True Image. It's buried in the settings (i.e., when creating the backup job, you need to manually set the options for things like that. Or set the default for all jobs to that).

BackupExec does email notification and all sorts of backup methods, including drives and tapes, and it's schedulable too. In my case, it uses SQL 2005 to store backup database.

Lots of people don't seem to like it but I have absolutely no problems with it. I use an LTO2 tape drive.
