I just purchased an asus p5n-e SLI mobo, I am having trouble getting display output...although I am trying to use a SATA drive on a new install, and im not sure if you can even do that or not.. would I have to boot from an IDE? -- I'm positive everything is connected correctly, CPU fan comes on, mobo light, HDD spins (as far as I can tell), GPU fan comes on.

Also no matter which way I plug in the front panel connectors, I get no power or HDD light, no beeps or anything. I am using a Core 2 Duo e6300, I was told when I purchased both of them that it worked with the p5n. Any suggestions on where to start woluld be appreciated. Thanks.
 
You should be able to boot from an SATA from that mobo as well. I am still on the a8n32 sli bus, but I use my plextor DVD Burner which is SATA to load windows. I did have a problem at first because it was trying to auto-identify itself in my raid.

As far as the system not displaying any lights/beep codes, the only time I have seen that was when the CPU was toast. It may not be, just what I have seen many many times. Most everything else will fail over to a beep code. If the CPU won't initialize, well, you may have a problem. Try resetting the bios or making sure that all jumpers/switches/sli selectors are in the right positions and secure. You may even be shorting the board on the backplate.

Hope the suggestions help. It is late at work and I am halfway out of it.
 
If it doesn't POST, and doesn't beep, it's unlikely to be a drive problem. Unplug any unneeded peripherals, drives, and PCI cards and see if you can POST though. If not, then it's probably CPU, mobo, or memory.
 
Remove the CPU from the socket and inspect the socket very carefully for bent pins. Use a magnifing glass if you have to.
 
Most likely your mob doesn't like the memory or something is not plugged in all the way.

Check your connections to everything and then post back here with what type of memory.
 
And PSU type/size.

There are posts about people having problems like this, when the psu is just giving enough power to spin the fans and drives.
 
indeed what is your psu? i just bought the same board and i'm running fine
