i was looking into start subscribing to gamefly cause i just go through games way too quickly to keep paying the 60 dollar price tag that i'm only going to play through once. if anyone else subscribes to this, do they usually have the games as you request them of do you usually have to wait for them, how long does it take for a game to get to your house? any input would be appreciated guys
 
I used to have a subscription but cancelled after a month. For me I thought it was going to be the same experience as netfix, but the games seemed to come much later than netflix. I used to get netflix within 2 days of sending it back but gamefly took about a week.

There's not a whole lot of distibution centers for gamefly compared to netflix and the wait in between times vs the amount that I paid was not worth it for me. I was better off renting from blockbuster at 2 for $10. You might have a different experience though so don't let this deter you from trying it out. It was my location and the distribution center's location that didn't work out for me.
 
shipping is way to slow, I canceled after a month. If they could speed things up a little I would join again in a heartbeat.
 
Same thing here, had a membership about a year ago, and the one week minmum turn around time for games just wasn't bareable, I live in PA for reference
 
Same as the others. I had a membership for about 3 months and it took them 4 days to receive the game and 3-5 to ship a new one out. Though to be fair towards the last couple of weeks they started receiving it within 1-2 days and sending it out at the same rate but by that time I was too disappointed and decided to cancel anyway
 
yea im kinda inbetween two shipping centers. i live in MS and there is one in texas and one in fl. but i don't know i might try it out for a month and see how things are. are there any other services like this one. that are kind of like netflix but for video games?
 
3 year member and counting. Shipping to VA takes 2 days. Getting the game to ship.......you gotta be fast adding it to the top right before release date.

I buy all my games from Gamefly being a 12+ month member gets you 10% off. I buy brand new games for $44ish.

Gamefly saves me so much money.
 
Well, to all those who have issues with shipping, the solution is to just have the plan for 2 games at once. When you return a game, you have another one during that downtime. My average return rate is a few days in Chicago. Gotta go walk across the street to return one right now...
 
If you go through a lot of games pretty quickly, the 2 at once plan is pretty nice. I think it is a very nice service to try games that you are not sure about purchasing as well. It is much cheaper than renting a game locally at like Blockbuster for 5 days (which just cost me $10 + change the other day because I wanted to play a game with a buddy that day).
 
1yr. member here and my total turn around is 3 days. I also purchase my games from them. I paid $25 for CoD:WAW.:D

My next game to ship is Ghostbusters for the 360. I have had it at the top of my queue for about a month now. I should get it Friday.:)
 
I have it, and I love it. But you need to check if you live nearby one of their shipping centers (look at their wikipedia entry).

I live in New Jersey, and if I send a game back on monday, I have a new game by Friday.

It takes longer to get newly released games though. It took me about 10 days to get a relatively new release(I cleared out all the other items on my queue to ensure I got that specific game).

Overall, it's saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars since I beat most games in a weekend or two. If I decide the game has good replay value, or if I want to keep playing the multiplayer, I just pay to keep it and save money on the purchase as well.
 
Have a free open space available and add it to the top of your list and it should ship 95% of the time. I did this for gears 2, killzone 2, fable 2, ect........and those were really popular when they were released.

The most recent game I did not get when I had a spot open was prototype, and that was because I had it 3rd on my list instead of first.

Also they give you $5 credit which you can use on games every 3 months. During holidays they give you extra credit like $10. Over the memorial weekend they were offering $10 credit and since I had 5$ credit I got $15 off Killzone 2. The total price was $26.

They have a C- BBB rating but it seems a majority of the complaints are "I sent the game back but they did not receive it and charged me for the game!" .... sure you sent it back. Now, I've lost things in the mail before, Priority Mail mind you, and I bet the game disc are easy targets to thieves since you can see what it is.

With Batman, Uncharted 2, God of War III, Ghostbusters, Infamous and various other good ps3 titles out or coming out, I've thought about signing up but I would have to rent 2 games a month to get my moneys worth and I don't know if I would play that much (I love my PC to much).

I know this is a little necro-postnig of me, but I subbed to gamefly on Tuesday 7/14 and wanted to report in.

I created my account, but was surprised to discover that much of the Gamefly site doesn't work very well on Firefox. At least, the account setup and login screens. Once your logged in, its fine. But account creation and login are all white screens with plain looking text boxes. Not sure if its just my computer. In Internet Explorer it looks much different, and more professional.

I setup my GameQ which is easy to do. Find the game you want, click 'rent' and it adds it to your Queue. Anyone who has netflix will find this familiar. Your gameQ is also very similar.

For reference, I live near Philly, PA.

So Wednesday morning I get an E-Mail that the game shipped. (Prototype). Thursday I check the mailbox, but having read this thread before I knew it was unlikely to be there. Friday, no luck. Saturday I was sure it would have arrived. No.... Sunday theres no mail. Monday it finally got there. So that was 4 days (not counting Sunday). Ugh :(. Where'd this game ship from? I've sent stuff to Florida in less than 4 days before!

So, I reason that it'll take 4 days to return the game, and then another 4 for it to come back. This made me upgrade my subscription from 1 game at a time, to 2.

IF Gamefly was as fast as Netflix, I wouldn't need 2 games at once, and I know very few people who would. Think about it. Movies you can get through 2 of them in a 2 day period, because they're at most 3 hours long. But games take anywhere from 15 to 50 hours. Its unlikely you'll need 2 games at once, and with a quick turnaround of 2 days, few people would shell out the extra money. They'd just be patient. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the long turnaround times are an encouragement for people to upgrade their subscription. Regardless of that though, I did upgrade.

So, I upgrade my subscription on the weekend, and my 2nd game shipped Monday. (Ghostbusters PS3), and it arrived on Thursday. Thats only 3 days, still a long time, but not as bad as 4.

Seeing as I have 2 games at once now, turnaround time isn't an issue. I just sent back Prototype, and I'm playing ghostbusters. I doubt I'll be finished with ghostbusters before the next game arrives. I expect it to take about a week.

Besides the turnaround time, the service (so far) has been fine. Both disks arrived in fine condition. They have a piece of cardboard in there to protect the game from shipping damage. Even at the $22 a month for 2 games at once, its far cheaper than buying a new game. At $60 for a PS3 game at Gamestop, I'm getting my monies worth if I get 1 game every 3 months.

So basically, yea it takes a long time for games to come and go. But if you have 2 games at once, you'll always have something to play.

Actually, once your return games enter the postal system, Gamefly gets a notification. So your next games ship before they receive your previous games.
 
I've read nothing but bad things about the service (huge waits for game deliveries, out of stock, etc). Granted, if you live close to their shipping facility (which I don't think there are many) then it isn't so bad.

Thats pretty cool - at least it won't take THAT long for the return, but still 4-5 days at worst to ship.

that was not my experience. I was always notified by gamefly 3-4 days after I shipped games back that the game had been recieved and then a second one usually a couple of hours later advising they were shipping the next game on my list.

like the others, I experienced slow shipping times between games and opted to cancel and just sign up for a month of blockbuster game service whenever a few games came out that I wanted to play. good luck,
