Another XP problem....or is it??

Ok, so i have 3 compuers at my home.

Gateway(running fine)
Dell XPS(when OS comes to splash screen it resets)
Dell Dimension 8400(wont even recognize a hard drive, just a black screen)
SATA HDs, seagate and maxtor!

I try to do a clean install on xp for the Dell XPS computer and it will not recognize the hard drive ( after i've pressed enter to confirm i want a fresh install of win xp it just goes to the screen that say mass storage device could not be found)



So, i started to trouble shoot, tried recovery disks, full win xp cd's and nothing works, it wont load on the XPS or dimension computers!


I then take the hard drive unplug my main HD from my gateway and plug it in.
I put the win xp cd in and it installs XP to it perfectly. Im able to operae windows XP on the gateway computer now.

So i take that HD and put it in my XPS.....low and behold as soon as it goes to the WIN XP splash page it resets the computer. I go into BIOS and reset the settings back to factory and it still does the same thing....

Anyone got any ideas? The hard drive isn't working on either dell, but it is working on the gateway!


p.s NEVER BuY A DELL!
 
This has nothing to do with the fact two of them are Dells.

First, the working drive wouldn't boot on the Dell because it's using a different controller than the Gateway is. Had you followed the sticky and run Sysprep on it before moving the drive, it would have worked fine.

As for the Dells, I don't know offhand about what chipsets they use, but I don't see it mentioned anywhere that you tried loading the drivers at the F6 prompt.

As for your XPS that goes to the splash screen, have you tried running a simple repair install?
