Another Headphone question

Ok, heres the deal

I need headphones, generally looking at closed, but open are fine. These will not be used EXTENSIVELY, since my Ultras are my main source of sound when listen to music/games/dvds. I just need something that will sound good, that doesnt need a dedicated headphone amp and will sound good come out of the Klipsch Control Tower/box.

Im not a Audiophile, but my current 20 dollar sony headphones that I just use on my portable cd player arent exactly the greatest headphones around. Nothing expensive since I already lost a pair, and recently I have been using it at home on the computer, mainly to play Splinter Cell. They do the job, but they sound a bit "incased", with and lack a rich sound, plus after about 30 minutes, they f***ing hurt the back of my ears.

I was looking at headphones, and the Grado 60's stood out. Then I saw the 80's, I have been looking at those 2, but any recommendations would be fine. Also if anyone could tell me if the price difference between the 60s and the 80s is worth the sound difference

Im just going to make this easy

• Open or closed style
• Sounds good for the price
• comfortable for use of a around a hour per session
• Good lows and mids for games
• $100 price range
• Does not require a preamp

Anyways, 100 bucks and you want nice lows and mids + no headphone amp? Doesn't leave a whole lotta options.

Earclip. Not earbud. Like I said, your budget is quite small for what you are expecting in headphones. At the very least, I would get the Audiotechnica ATH 900. Those run very nicely without an amp.

HEH. WOops. I realized that after I scrolled up to read Jones's post. Was just too lazy to edit mine.

But, I still think you should stretch your budget. For 195, you can get the ATH 900s.

Ugh, Sonys are teh no.

The only Sony's I'll love are a 15yr old pair I have that are falling apart. Hence my current quest for good headphones in the $200 range (250 maxish).
