Decided to give this a shot to earn a few extra bucks a month and see what happens.

I'm planning on having my 1060 6GB running overnight and while I'm at work. I live in Minnesota so the extra heat will actually be useful and electricity is only .099KWH which I'm led to believe is pretty cheap.

As I'm a complete beginner with this and I'm looking to keep things as simple as possible I'm downloading NiceHash miner and letting it handle things for me. Any real basic advice or obvious things I'm missing? I'm not expecting any major payout, it's just a bit of an experiment.

NiceHash is a good way to start. Make sure you set up dual factor authentication on your account @ NiceHash. You'd probably want to sign up for a coinbase account as well, so you can move the funds out of the nicehash wallet free of charge once you've earned enough bitcoin for a withdraw.

Oh, and mining... it's addictive.... Consider yourself warned ;)

And then transfer the coin to gdax, sell it on a limit, and transfer cash to a bank account via ACH transfer and avoid all fees. This way the only fee you pay is the 2% nicehash takes off the top when they payout to your wallet. Converting to cash on coinbase can be expensive with the options available to you.

Install MSI afterburner to monitor your temperatures and if you'd want to get into it you can also tweak power use, max temp and overclock from there.

Only 1 cent per kwh? That's very very low.
 
I already had EVGA precision running so that part of things is fine. I haven't played with the voltage, just lowered the power target to 90% as it didn't seem to have much of an impact on the clock rate while gaming anyway. Still maxing out around 2000 MHZ.

That electric rate is in dollars, so just under 10 cent per KWH.
 
Oh yeah, silly me, forgot how to round! Still a nice rate, I pay around 14 cents.
