I just bought an AMD64 3400+ for my new system and some OCZ ultra 5+ thermal compound.

1. Is that thermal paste ok for amd64?
2. How much do I apply? Do I cover the whole surface?

Sorry for the noob questions but I simply don't want to screw up this processor =p

Oh ya, I also got a ThermalTake Venus 12 something or other hsf for it.

Originally, OCZ 5+ was AS5. When the OCZ Ultra 2 was recalled (due to a manufacturer lying to them about the paste specs), they got AS to sell them their AS5 to be repackaged in a different tube. An AS employee confirmed this in a post he made in the forums at the big computer place back home.

My tube of Ultra 2 wasn't from the bad manufacturer. My temps barely dropped after properly putting the repackaged AS5 on my Barton.

I'm not sure who is making their 5+ right now. I hope it's still AS. :)

Follow the AS guide for putting the paste on.

OCZ thermal compound should do nicely. You got a Venus 12? Nice heatsink actually, i reccomend it.
