Im going to be building a new computer (AMD...) and for the processor I was considdering getting an AMD XP 3200+. This computer is mainly for gaming, so I need higher things. I checked the price of this, and its in my price range (About 100$) and I have this question:

When is a higher speed coming out?

Im not gonna buy the parts for about a month or two, and I wanted to know that if I should just wait for something higher...say a 3500+, just to say, I dont know what speed would come next. Because the higher, the better. And as long as it is 175$ USD or lower, I can get it. (Budgeting...Im also putting 2 gigs of Corsair DDR in it..which is ognna be like 300-400$ + a Raedeon 9700).

If anyone can help me..it would be greatly appreciated.

Go with the new athlon 64's. They are a tad more expensive but they are the future for amd right now. The older amd xp's will probably not see any more releases.

So future proof stick with the amd 64's.
 
since you are waiting... if you can wait til around May/June - that may be the time that the new Athlon socket 939 comes out. the present Athlon64 is socket 754 and will be obsoleted by the end of the year...
Also when the new socket comes out so will new chipsets (such as the NF3 250) and the new tech will be incorporated such as the pci express - replacement for pci AND agp. Also, this should be when the new vid cards will be out (and doom ]|[ /half life 2)
If you decide to go intel - the new version of the Prescott (read less likely to be molten lava hot...) as well as its new chipsets should be out by then too.
If you cant wait - well there are three avenues. - Go old tech athlon XP - and buy a 2500 and set the bus to 200mhz (effectively making it a 3200+) on an nforce 2 ultra 400 chipset board or buy a 2500+ mobile barton (as they overclock fiendishly)
or go with a 3200+ if you do not want to bother overclocking (still go with the nf2 u400 chipset)
and third, go athlon 64 as the present chips rock and will be eventually upgraded to around 3700+ speeds supposedly before the end of socket 754 support...
note however, expect to have to buy a new video card next time you upgrade as it will be doubtful that boards will come with both an agp port and pci express vid port...

Falcon0r, Unless you have some money burning a hole in your wallet get a cheaper Athlon XP if you plan on going the nForce2 route. Don't go with the XP3200 unless they come down a bunch by the time that you buy it or if you absolutely will not do any overclocking. Any of the Barton cores seem to be more than capable of running 2.2ghz like the stock XP3200 runs. I have an old outdated motherboard (see sig) and it still got an XP2800 up to 2.350ghz without breaking a sweat.

That being said - the 64 bit Athlons are the way to go if you can afford a few more $$ and if the 939 pin products haven't shown up by the time you build your new system.
