AMD has issued a warning today saying the company is “unlikely to meet” its revenue guidance for the first quarter.

The company's previous outlook was for sales of $1.6 billion to $1.7 billion. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial are looking for $1.7 billion in sales. AMD CEO Hector Ruiz was expected to update the company's guidance at a technology conference in San Francisco on Monday. Shares of the Sunnyvale, Calif., company were down 38 cents, or 2.7 percent, in premarket trading.

well yes, you gain market share by slashing prices heavily, so all the 939 and am2 people stay amd another round and dont buy intel. problem is, all that marketshare means nothing without profit. apple learned that in the 90s

I didn't expect them to hit their mark with all the slashing of prices and the recent acquisition

Geek.com is proclaiming this the "Death of AMD." I think AMD would respond with "Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated."

Company's issue warnings all the time. Just because they predict a certain revenue or earnings number doesn't mean they'll make them.

This is a big yawn as far as I'm concerned.

Its news like this that makes me realize that selling off my shares in January was a very good thing indeed. Its going to go farther downhill from here.

AMD/ati will be selling for under 5 USD a share come the 4th quarter of 07.

What will cause AMD's death is people jumping ship at the first sign of trouble. They will lose alot of investor and profit revenue.

Hope they will have thing turn around. Even though, I'm a Intel fan, but I want AMD to stay around. They are the reason to keep the price down.

I wouldn't worry about it. If AMD was going down, you can almost be certain that IBM would swoop in to buy what's left of AMD, and we would once again have IBM versus Intel (which I think would work a lot better than this David versus Goliath scenario we've had for the past 40 years).

I agree, especially since AMD is trying to sell a huge amount of stock in order to get some quick cash. A stock price crash would be the final nail in their coffin if that happened.

IBM or Motorla would probably pick them up... or who knows maybe VIA? lol

anyway, people have been predicting the death of amd since the 486 days when most people thought they would never really be able to compete with intel...

well a lot has changed, and amd and intel will both go through cycles where one will be doing better vs the other... relatively of course, intel has a much larger product line, especially in networking and embedded things etc...

See, this is different than the 486 days. Back in the 486 days, AMD simply didn't have a decent product. Now, not only are they completely lacking a decent product in both their GPU and CPU departments, but they are up to their eyeballs in debt and are being bankrupted by the contract with Dell that they just had to have.
