AMD 6950 Triple Display Problem

I've got a 6950 that I'm currently running two 1920x1200 monitors on (DVI). Not in eyefinity mode. I'm wanting to be able to output to my TV (Panasonic 1080p Plasma via HDMI) across the room via a 25' HDMI cable.

After reading the AMD site, it looked like to add the TV and go to three monitors on this card,all I needed was an active mini-Displayport to DVI adapter to move one monitor to the Displayport to be able to run triple monitors. I bought this HIS after reading Amazon and Newegg reviews.

However, it's still not seeming to let me set up the third monitor either via the Desktop Management or Eyefinity section of Catalyst. Saying it's unsupported.

What am I missing?

Win 7 Pro, 64 bit.

I see the TV in Catalyst, I just can't display to it.

Going to do some testing later with HDMI to another monitor instead of the TV to eliminate the long cable and the display itself. Just got to dig out another cable.
 
Which HD6950 are you using? A few of the later models have weird output setups which may be causing issues.

You obviously are already aware that the HD6950 can output to a maximum of 2 non-DisplayPort outputs which is why you bought the active DisplayPort adapter (I checked your link, you bought the correct adapter). Are you hooking up the TV via DVI-to-HDMI adapter or a HDMI port? If your HD6950 has an HDMI as well as 2 DVI ports (one of my HD6950 cards is laid out that way) the HDMI port is mapped to one of the DVI ports so try plugging the DVI cable to the other DVI port. If your TV has DVI or if you have access to a third monitor with DVI try using 2 DVI and 1 DisplayPort (thru your adapter) as a test - if *THAT* doesn't work then someone sent you the wrong adapter (your adapter is passive not active) or your adapter is bad.

I have run 4 to 6 monitors on various HD6950's so I know it will work as long as you know which port configurations are possible.

I've got an early HIS 6950. I am running 6970 shaders, though. I did the edit to my original BIOS myself, but I suppose that could have broken it.

The HDMI port off the card. I took top DVI cable on the card physically and moved it to the Displayport adapter. Left the bottom DVI cable connected as it was, then the HDMI port from the card to the TV.

I'll play around with connection combos, including maybe seeing if I have a DVI to HDMI adapter to hook the TV up via the mini-Displayport adapter. Thanks for pointing me in a couple of directions to play. I'll try to update later.

I was worried that maybe the 25' HDMI cable might have been pushing things on signal if it wasn't high enough quality. I guess I could try booting with only the HDMI plugged in to test that, assuming the card should work with the HDMI alone.

Also, I just wanted top post here and make sure the different resolutions weren't messing this up. I don't think I can use Eyefinity to put these disparate resolutions together, and wouldn't want to. My goal here is strictly to be able to play controller games across the room on the 60" plasma at times, solely using the TV for games.

Rebooted with only HDMI attached accidentally when moving cables. See bios/UEFI screens on the plasma. Even saw the "this didn't shut down properly, start Windows normally?" screen. Soon as I answered that and tried to get into Windows, black screen and the TV indicates no input connection.

So, handshake issue? I'm plugged straight into the TV, not my receiver. Of note, I run Windows Media Center on a different PC attached through the AVR to HDMI one (even tested the long cable on that port).
 
Hooked up my old Benq monitor via HDMI, and it didn't work with either my 25' or 6' HDMI cables. Hooked it up via DVI (2 DVI ports plus the mini-Displayport adapter to DVI), and the two original monitors plus the BenQ work. So it's definitely something to do with HDMI in the mix.

Getting more frustrated by the minute.

EDIT: Scratch the part about the Benq not working on the 6' cable. I finally got that working. I'm now down to the 25' cable not working with it. Took some moving around of DVI inputs. Think I'm onto something. Seems to be my 25' HDMI cable.

Does the BenQ/TV HDMI works if *ONLY* the HDMI cable is plugged in?

Not sure I understand. The BenQ will work as a third monitor either on DVI or HDMI as long as I don't use the 25' HDMI cable. I made a bonehead mistake when I thought it wasn't working on the 6' HDMI. Didn't select the proper input via the monitor controls.

Just as a reference, this is the cable that appears bad. This is the one I just ordered to replace it.

Got my new cable, and everything works. Thanks for the sounding board assistance to help me figure this out.

Now I need an HDMI switcher since my AVR is maxed on it's HDMI ports.
