Aion Release

Playing on Vaizel, Elyos side and also Siel, Asmodean side. Highest is only a 20 Templar, but I am LOVING the game. Can't wait to get into the abyss and smash some faces. I have Fallen Earth sitting on my desk, still unopened XD

I am on Elyos as well, lvl 21 cleric. Nomec is my character's name. We could probably do some grouping.

Asmodian, Marchatun

Char name is Intx. 16 Assassin

So far loving it also. Honestly looking forward to grinding with guildies and PuGs. I love grinding and hanging out (FFXI style)

me and the wife still enjoy the game we're both half way to 23.

22 cleric <- me
22 sorc <- her

I'm like 111 armor smithing, 70 alchemy, 115 aether extraction, 110 vitality extraction.

By the way, how the hell do I raise my aether extraction? I just got to eltonen fortress and everything requires like 90+ in the skill. I have like 2??? My vitality extraction is like 95, but I haven't seen any places to extract aether. Maybe I am just not paying attention.

I know there's a bunch from 0-50 skill required above the altgard fortress, which is the level 10ish zone for asmodian. I'm guessing whatever fortress elyos has would be the same. It's a pain to lvl up since you have to fly, grab a few, and rest.

lol... The Veteron Citadel is where you need to raise it at first until at least like 25.. then at Holy Grounds, their are level 25, level 50, level 75 and level 100 Nodes.

Jesus, I didn't even bother looking. Do I need any of that stuff for Cooking or Alchemy? If not, I won't bother raising it until I absolutely need to.

you need Aether Powder for all crafting from 1-100, then over 100 crafting things need Aether Crystals which come off of 100 Skill Nodes... and My server charges a lot for aether on the auction house easier to collect yourself. balls i want to go home and play, im at work now.. urgh couple more hours... hoping to hit level 23 tonight.

Currently lvl 34.. will be hitting 36 hopefully tonight!!! or by end of week (to be more realistic :p)

Work had me tied up all this week and the end of last week. Gonna try hitting 26 tonight maybe get some Abyss fighting goin on. Buddy and I went through a rift over the weekend. That awas cool as hell even though we got smoked by some Asmos.

Make sure you do the abyss training grounds instance every day you can when you're 25ish. It's crazy fast xp.

Looks like most of you are approaching Abyss level or are currently doing the Training Grounds instance. Here is a guide for the 30+ fortress. Keep in mind your faction needs to have control of the fortress in order to gain access to the dungeons.

I think I'm done with the game, personally. It's not a bad game by any means but it truly is more of the same. It's very linear and at times it feels like I'm playing a JRPG on the PS2. Maybe I got burned out in beta from doing the same thing over and over again. Maybe I'm just an old MMO player that's become jaded and have no idea what WTF I want to do anymore. :p

I'm kinda feeling the same way. I'm playing it casually until the free month runs out but after that I'm done. It's a little bit too much of a time sink, as with all MMOs nowadays. Game isn't bad, but I can't see myself continuing to play it. Also WoW has done all the small things correctly while Aion missed the boat on a lot of these issues, such as the camera.

With MWF2 and Borderlands coming and a backlog of games to play when I build my new comp this weekend there is no room for Aion :p

I like Aion. If NCSoft can fix the couple major issues I have with it soon I'll probably be playing for a while. The issues are

1) after the "5.1 audio" update unless I'm using XP, the sound is in mono and non-directional (Vista and 7). This is totally unacceptable to me. I'm tired of being deafened by random sounds that shouldn't be near me or loud, blasting through my speakers.

2) The gold spammers are completely out of control. NCSoft has released a message saying this is their main priority, so that's good news.

These 2 things are totally fixable, and if NCSoft can take care of them, I really have to say I have no issues with the game itself...

Game has slowed down a loooooooooooooot since hitting 30. I've just been burning my rested bar and logging off for the past week. There are rumors that they'll be upping the experience rewards for quests by as many as 4x.

It's a fun game but a huge timesink. I get hyped up about playing it and then that quickly fades as I kill a mob and my experience bar barely shifts. I think a lot of people, myself included, are starting to realize that you can't rush to end-game or you'll burn out quickly. I've quickly lowered my sights to achieving one level spread over the workweek and one level on the weekends.

hearing the Xp increase is good, and this is kind of what I am doing. I'm trying to pace myself anyway and enjoy the game. I've found with past MMOs that rushing to end game does nothing but fizzle quickly, and the destination is only half the part of the game... the adventure is what it's about.

Maybe I will try it when it hits BigLots for $6. By then server traffic will be way down too.

i like the game i did hear they are going to up the XP on quests which would be awesome.

i have more than recommanded specs and in zones that are highly populated it can lag that pisses me off.

Sometimes my ping is 250ms and what have u... im debatng overclocking or upgrading my processor its my weakest point, my processor is amd x2 5000 i think clocked around 2.6ghz

any tips to getting a better ping or anything? im debate if its server/network lag or PC lag.. wonder if i need to open any ports on my router.

i also like the idea of channels so i can get away from people to finish quests w/ my the wife, however some zones only have 1 channel which is a nightmare.

well the Channels go away at lvl 20. You can still change channels in lower zones, but as far as I can tell its gone for 20+

their is 2 channels in the one zone im in now and im level 23.

they should have more channels in all zones... anyone else get lag spikes? or shit pings around 250 sometimes? this type of stuff should be getting fixed.. =/

I stay under 100 ping all the time. As far as channels, I have yet to see a channel since 20. Im 24 now. Maybe you are seeing channels in lower level realms. I had a 150 ping with Brighthouse but switched to comcast with my move and it lowered pings. Im on Zikel.

Brusthonin has 2 channels. Morheim and Beluslan do not. I do wonder if we'll be able to use the 2 channels in the upper 30s when we start questing in Brusthonin again.

I do get some random lag spikes, but for the most part it's smooth sailing.

Go to the Etalitan Fortress and tell me its smooth sailing.

that zone has a million people on the damn walk way at the broker, etc.. its f'n annoying. do /ping

also play around hot hours, 7-10pm EST.

Well, Etaliten Fortress? Do you mean Eltnen? Either way, if it's in Elysea, I wouldn't last very long there.

Major cities like Pandaemonium/Sanctum and the lower level fortresses like Morheim/Eltnen are bound to have big-time traffic. You'll have a higher ping because of the sheer number of people around you, which is different than having a high ping because there's something wrong with the connection between you and the server.

yah im talking about Eltnen, i cant type or say have the names in this game since its all crazy korean stuff.

Anyone still playing this? What's the current opinion of it?

My Legion imploded once people got to the large scale battles, it never recovered and I left too before even putting much of a dent in the leveling due to IRL considerations. Sadly, I think most legions fell to this same fate.

I quit 2nd month, I could already get all my miragent pieces, the game got way too boring.

Nope, I didn't even pay for a second month... a couple of guildmates stayed while the rest went back to WAR and WOW, but those ones quit after the first paid month saying it was terrible still at that point.

Well, it's on sale at Amazon for $30 with the first month included so I picked up a couple of copies for the wife and I. If it's fun for the first 20 or 30 levels it should be worth it.

I'm still playing on the extremely low pop server Meslamtaeda. It's still fun slowly getting decked out in endgame gear, and the occasional pvp battle. My current legion is full of Chinese, Koreans, Taiwanese, and Japanese and I haven't a clue as to what they sometimes type. I like running the legion as they all seem to get along so well together. It's fun to develop strategies on the cuff in a pvp dungeon and having another guy translate back and forth :). Complete chaos and waay too much fun!

Naturally we have rivals with the opposite faction to contend with, but lately our biggest threat is the dwindling player base. I refuse to ever play WoW again, so maybe I will do this genre like I did FPS after Quake 3. Buy a bunch of new titles and get so bored that I just don't even open the wrapper on some. Lately some players are coming back though. Kinda neat to see old faces again.

I'm willing to give AION the benefit of the doubt. The game still has great promise as it reminds me of early WoW, but I think the allure of "Free Epicz" in WoW might be able to hold this grind game at bay. Nothing in AION is done without grinding after level 25. It's just how it is. And from reading the barometer of the multinational members of my legion, it's the spoiled Westerners who can't accept the grind. The members of my legion just see it as another challenge to overcome. I secretly wish out loud sometimes that I could get more cool drops, but then again I like having something to do.

Too many are spoiled by WoW's free loot system. You can actually map your timeframe for acquiring full endgame gear in WOW. In Aion, you might camp a boss for 3 days, kill it for 50 cycles over and never see an epic drop for anyone. Totally different mindsets in that regard. It does make receiving them that much more fulfilling, but riddles the game with RNG. RNG makes for a ranger class 2 shotting my sorceror because he got all the cool drops and I didn't.

Some love it and some hate it. If you can get a copy for cheap I say go for it :).

I played it over the weekend and now have a 12 Sin, 12 Templar, and 11 Sorc. My wife and I are enjoying it quite a bit. Having to pay for everything is pretty brutal for your in-game finances while starting out. The standard mobs have a lot more health and do more damage than your typical WoW mob.

It's different enough from WoW to be interesting but familiar enough that it's easy to get into. I don't know that I'll play for years like I did in WoW but it should keep me entertained for a couple of months.

I got two shot by a giant crab outside of one of the early Elyos towns last night. :)

Ah that pesky crab. Trust me when i say you will be back to kill it when you get higher lvl. Every Elyos player knows of this pesky beast.
