I'm building an acrylic case. I almost have the plans done, and the acrylic squares to bake the box are being cut right now. I'm going to add the bezel, fan holes and other stuff my self.

One Question. I want to flame polish the edges. I've been told you can use a regular torch, but I've tried and it does not seem to work.

If I have to I'm going to buy a flame polishing kit, expensive but I want to get the best finish.

Any suggestions :)

It's tough. You have to find the right combo of heat to melt the plastic while cool enough to avoid melting it out of shape or expanding any microscopic air bubbles to viewable sizes. If it is simply not melting (hold a torch up to a scrap piece for over 20 seconds and it still holds shape) you are using something other than plexi. You might have to try fine sanding the edges in this case.

if you find out how to let me know because I'll be building my own acrylic case too.. I've been thinking of just painting(maybe even using a permanent marker) the edges..

You think sanding really well work? if so, what grit?

Look up mirror finished painting. I went up to 1500 grit but I would go higher if it wasn't metalic paint. If you go as far as that and then buffing compound it should be as good as melting. Still melting is much faster once you get the hang of it. Not sure if you are using some non plexi plastic or too little heat but it really is the way to go.

It takes some technique to flame polish the edges of acrylic but I have done it. You must go slow enough to heat the plexi but fast enough it doesn’t bubble. It’s like spray painting. Move too fast and there is no gloss. Go slow and it runs (burns).
Where (in UT) you at paceman?
