Well, I guess Im SOL because my linksys WAP54G does not support Upnp. 
My problem is that Im trying to play EAW on a home network & Im getting an extremely high ping (533). one computer is wired to a 8 port switch & the other is wireless using a WAP to connect to the wired pc
I ping the wireless pc from the wired pc and get an average of 2 ms. This network has been running for a couple of years and now it is running slow. The lag also show up when i try to play ROL as well.
any ideas?

have you updated the firmware and drivers on everything?
I think they have QOS in the new firmware for that linksys AP, might be able to use that, not sure.

Did you get a new wireless phone for your house, or better yet did your neighbor get a new wireless access point? I would try changing channels. Choose 1 6 or 11 any others overlap each other.

just to update.
1. My home network consist of 1 wired pc which is the oldest in the group, 1 laptop & 2 other pc connected wireless using WAP54G. The wired pc is connected to a 8port switch which is connected to port 1 of the router. The WAP54G is connected to port 4 of the router bringing the wired pc & the wireless pc together.
2. the cables (Cat5) were showing their age so I replaced them (cat6). After replacing the cables I tried it again (EAW) and still got the same results (500+ ping).
3 The next thing I tried was to see if the lag would appear using wireless pc to wireless pc. first I tried EAW, then ROL & there was no lag.
could the problem be the network card in the wired pc?

As someone said above, have you updated drivers/firmware for everything?
