Access Denied when moving files

I'm having a problem copying subfolders to other folders in WinXP SP2.

Whenever I cut & paste a directory over to another directory, it gets copied almost instantly and then when I try to open up that subfolder, I get "Access Denied".

The original directory is also gone (cut-and-paste).

Directory attributes put it as a grey checked "Read-Only". I unchecked the box, clicked okay, and I still can't access it.

Rebooted my PC.

Same old problem.

Has anyone encountered this?

If you're going to mark out the mp3 in the folder path, you might want to do it in the titlebar as well.
 
not sure exactly what you're trying to do. Check the ownership of the files, first thing you should try.

lol on leaving the MP3 in the title bar. Good thing you weren't having a problem with your bank's website :>
 
highlight all the folders (ctrl+a to select all) then right click > properties > security tab > advanced button > owner tab. Highlight the user you want to be the new owner.. using the administrators group is a good way to do it. Then click APPLES er.. APPLY! Have fun watching it ...

EDIT: Be sure not to have both FILES and folders selected at the same time, or else you will only get a general/summary tab. Only select folders. Also on the owner tab, be sure to click the check box, that applies the changes to all child objects... so that it changes the permissions of the files within the folder. If you don't, this won't help you!
 
Have you run anti-spyware/adware scans and AV? If you don't have a security tab on the folders, you have bigger problems than ownership...

Directories in XP are always read only, you can't write data to "folder" objects. You can write to children of folders like files, but not the folders themselves.
 
The error is as though some process is still using it.

When I cut-and-paste, I noticed that its almost simultaneously where the directory gets moved. Even if the directory is very big.
 
Control Panel>Folder Options>View>Use simple file sharing

Make sure that's unchecked before following the previous advice in this thread.
