I am putting together a new system for my parents, I'm thinking about getting them the Abit NF7-S2 board, I'm woundering if this board is worth the money or what should I get?

My understanding is the NF7-S2 board is the rev 2.0 board the NF7-S boards are crap, is this true?

You've got that reversed. The NF7-S v2.0 is the full-featured board, whereas the NF7-S2 is the stripped board. You lose all of your overclocking features, and I hear you don't get the nForce2 MCP-T (the high-end southbridge chip, which includes Soundstorm).

If its for your parents, then the NF7-S2 should work fine. But if the price difference between it and the NF7-S is almost nothing, then I'd shoot for the NF7-S v2.0.
 
I built a system for my brother using this board (NF7-S2) recently. Something that may save you some time and frustration if you decide to get it. If your not going to run dual channel RAM, put the single DDR DIMM into memory slot 2. Otherwise the system won't boot. I don't yet know why this is and it's undocumented.
