I just bought one of these (new supposedly) off Ebay. I have heard great things about this board but lately I have seen some things not so good. North bridge fan going out. Board just up and dying etc. Anyone have this board and have any buyer remorse?

I've had the joy of having two of these beauties in the past.

I know some do, but I never had any issues with the NB fan, and my first MAX3 is in my friends comp and has been for MONTHS....not a single issue.

The one thing that I found irritating with it is the fact that you can't apply anymore then 2.8v to your memory, and I have had memory compatibility issues in the past.
 
I have this exact mobo for over a year and 3 months. had no issues just had to flash the bios for it to detect my 200 Gig Sata Hardrive once I did that detected my hardrive and was good to go. I also have a thermalright sp94 artic silver 5 2.4C p4 and a Vantec Tornado fan budled with a Asprie Turbo Case and Antec 480 wat psu. So far nothing but rock solid playability. I even overcloced and got to 3.2 at stock voltages but I decided to keep it at stock to get full potential of my memory.

The only thing this boards lacks is a old Parrarel Port so if you have a older printer you wouldn't be able to use it unless there is a cable converter or something out there that I am unaware of I have a usb 2.0 printer so it works fine.

I have also had a abit bh6 board in the past abit's reputation with me is rock solid. If you know what your doing abit is a good choice.
 
NEVER BUY MOBO'S USED!!!!! The motherboard is the core center of all the activity your computer has to handle and one thing can easily affect another. Buying it used just opens yourself to endless possibility's of problems that could of easily happen because you have no idea what previous person did. Definatly not justifyable to save a few measly bucks.

I hated that so much, I tried appling MadCat's VTT mod.... and now my board won't read any RAM :) So, I had to send it out to someone who knows enough about them to fix it. Hopefully, I'll get my board back soon with the ability to pump more volts in my BH-5 RAM ;)

I was thinking of doing more or less teh same.....getting about 6 different mods done to the board.....but I'm just in the process of moving to an SLI-DR setup with a 3200+ and X850XT-PE right now....so I'm glad I'm not gonna have to worry about vdimm or vtt wit my new setup.
 
I've been running this board for almost a year. No regrets.

Yes, the NB fan blew in the first 3 months (I run my machine 24/7) Actually, it died a whiny, agonizing death. Better than a sudden stop, I suppose. It's a *CHEAP* fan.

I got Thermalright NB-1C (if you get one, you need to do some work on it, the milling on the contact surface is the pits. A couple of seconds on a nice *flat* belt sander and some hand lapping will fix it right up. Hint: Go to the website and READ the instructions. None come with it, and it can be intimidating if you aren't mechanically inclined). I'd personally replace the NB fan *before* it becomes an issue. If the fan is too loud for you, replace it. It's a simple swapout which is more than can be said for the ABIT fan.

Flashing the BIOS is super easy. ABIT has literally made it a one-click process.

If I knew then what I know now, I still would have done it. Although, today there are better choices. It seems like nothing gets obsolete faster than a mobo.
 
so whats a good NB cooler to put on the IC7 Max 3?
