My p5b Deluxe (p965)Wifi just bit the dust.I haid a raid0 setup and I am afraid if I don't get the same exact MB I will lose all my info!! is this true? or can I just set it to raid0 on the new board (p35) and it will work like a hot swap? Need help
The P35 uses the same RAID controller as the P965. So just make sure that your new motherboard has ICH9R raid controller and you'll should be able to see and use your RAID 0 array from your last motherboard as is.
However, do note that since you will be using a different motherboard, you may get an OS install that's unstable, sluggish or a combination of the two. So back up your data once you get your old RAID 0 array up and running and do complete reformat.
I would correct that statement. The P965 *CAN* use the same RAID controller as the P35. My P5B-E has an ICH8R, not an ICH9R. I see the P5B-deluxe is also ICH8R.
Nothing says that the disks made on an ICH8R aren't compatible with a -9R. I'm not sure if any manufacturer tweaks (ie. the way ASUS implements matrix storage) matters. You could arbitrary choose an ASUS board with the same ICH controller as whatever you're considering using and ask their tech support if your RAID0 volumes will load up on the new board OK. If they say "yes", your chances are good.
I randomly checked the P5K-E and it is ICH9R. Personally I think your chances are pretty good between any of the recent Intel ICHxRs. Intel has a very long spec statement for download for each ICHR chipset but I'm not sure if I saw that covered. I used that document to find out the combination of mode settings required to guarantee NCQ is on, because it isn't in all modes.
even better than pretty good. AFAIK and I have looked, the newer consumer ICH's are fully backwards compatible. Meaning an array created on an earlier version of the chip will be recognized with no issues by a newer version. You will have no issues with your array if you stick with an Intel ICH.
