so i've been having a issue with my new build.

AMD FX-8150
Crosshair V formula
EVGA 2.5gb GTX570
Antec HCG-900 psu
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)
OCZ Vertex 4 128gb
win 7 ulti

the issue being it freezes during web surfing (youtube or any video site) or any big web traffic such as downloading/installing sc2 to be exact. been messing with it for a few days now and based on what i've done and read the ssd may be the problem. i plan on picking up another ssd tomorrow.

so anyways i run memtest just to be sure. have the cpu set at 8 cores and almost instantly it freezes (at about 3%). this is not ran in windows. yet when i disable the last 2 cores it runs fine. why is this?
 
Memtest may have an issue with that processor or the processor is defective? Also, do you have the latest bios firmware on the mainboard installed?
 
maybe not closely related but on system (sig) I would get system crashes and reboots directly related to Chrome plugin that caused serious bugs. Disable the plug in (adblock) and the issue was resolved.
This usually happened after a Chrome update and caused a compatibility issue with the plugin. Problem was there was a browser crash, or system crash and no clues anywhere why. I finally correlated it to only happening viewing a flash video BANG crash.
 
What bios are you currently using in the MB, If your not using the 1301 bios then you should update it. I have heard of some people having problems just like your's and a bios update seemed to fix the problem.
