7800GS confirmed, benched

looks to be a good solid midrange solution. I just got my 7800 gtx a few days ago and while the extra speed is real nice, the TSAA and MSAA and gamma corrected AA rule.

Any pricing info? MSRP of $299 - $349 would be my guess, with actual pricing hovering just under $300.

I can already hear the comments: "Will it be available in AGP?" :p

That's ok, I'll be there to answer those comments with a "NO".

forget msrp, the 7800gts can be had for like 300 and sub 300 if you look at the newegg deal of the week. these things better sell at like 250 to make anything...

The 6800 GS will be almost $100 less than the 7800 GS. So, still a pretty good deal. I bought a couple of the XFX 6800 XXX GS cards (485/1100 spec) to build a couple PC's for my nephews. The 68xx series cards should be no more as of Q1 06. That segment is getting crowded with the 7200 and 7600 are on the horizon.

So 7200 for $100, 7600 starting around $150, the 7800 GS at $250, the 7800 GT at $350, the 7800 GTX at $450 and the 7800 GTX 512 for $600 (will be after the hype drops).

I wan't to know how much it'll come costing. I was thinking about maybe selling my 6600GT, and getting a 6800GS. But with this I'm thinking about waiting until the 7800GS drops a little under $300, and going for the buy.

Why wait for the 7800 GS to drop under that price when the 7800 GT's already there? Over on Newegg, they've got an AOpen 7800 GT for $289 after a mail-in rebate. It's one of the many reference-design 7800 GT's offered by various companies. Yeah, it's a mail-in rebate, but considering what you get for that (eventual) price I think the deal you've been looking for is already here.

if you look in the hot deals forum under newegg deals, there's an evga 7800gt for 289 as well (this week only or something)

It will be interesting to see a full review on a 7800gs, especially to see how well they perform overclocked. I'm going to hold off on my upgrade until they become available.

The 7800 GS should certainly be better than a 6800 GT. It wouldn't make sense for nVidia to discontinue the 6800 GT and then release an identical product.

The 7800 GS's performance should fall between the 6800 GS and the 7800 GT.

sounds fair enough

It only makes since that it would be between a 6800GS and a 7800GT.

After all, the 7800GS is 1000 higher than the 6800GS and it is also one letter slower than the 7800GT.

AT said it's the same core as the GT/GTX--rivatuner rivatuner rivatuner!!! Oh, how I hope nVidia didn't find a way to hardlock it, or chose not to bother doing so as a kiss to us bottom-feeding bargain-basement unlockers, not to mention a kick to the nads of certain Red-coated gentlepersons...

Does anyone know when they are suggested to launch? If the past says anything, than this should be another real launch and not one of ATI's famous "paper" ones.

Here is the end of ATI fans suggesting a X800GTO2 to flash to X850 as the best performance in this range of product. All ati has left is this range of product in AGP. This card in AGP could sink ati's last battleship. I hope things get a bit more competitive soon.

lol rather then suggesting a gto2 why dont they suggest a x850xt, there only 250 now at the egg. the performance of the 7800gs doesnt really impress me. even if they sell at 250 the gt can be had for 30-40 dollars more and gets better results.

at that price they wouldn't be that much of a sell but I have a feeling that they will be below that Maybe between $175-$250, $250 for the OC versions. :D Then they will be a good sell as I can see them beating a X850 easily. Stock I think will be at or slightly better than a stock X850. OC potential will go in favor of the 7800GS.

Looks like the X1800XL has a new competitor. :D

If the price is right, I'll bite.

I agree. I think we will see similar pricing to that of the 6600gt when it was released as it compared to the 6800.

Funny, I was just thinking that this sounded like the 6600GT of the 7800 series :D

I like the way nVidia is going with their lineup BTW; the higher the #, the better it is "6800GS < 7800GS < 7800GT < 7800GTX".

This finaly ends the problem we had when "GeForce 4MX < GeForce 2"

Looks like Nvidia says no 7800 GS..

GeForce 7800 GS PCI Express clarification from NVIDIA

I want to clear up a bit of confusion about the GeForce 7800 GS PCI Express articles that have surfaced recently.

Without getting into the nitty gritty details, NVIDIA provides boards to our developers for their in house game development. These boards are meant for the sole purpose of inhouse engineering and QA. In the case of the recent GeForce 7800 GS PCI Express reviews that you may have seen, some of these developer boards were mistakenly given out to end users at an event the developers sponsored. These boards were never meant to ship in the open market.

NVIDIA has NO plans to release a commercially available GeForce 7800 GS PCI Express board. For any end users that many have received this board as a prize, NVIDIA will be happy to swap this out for a GeForce 7800 GT PCI Express board, or a GeForce 6800 GS PCI Express board, as these two boards are commercially available.

Interesting that the PCI-e crowd was the one to start the off topic AGP vrs. PCI-e war... :p

I doubt it will be available in AGP though.

It won't. If you actually read the thread, you will see that nvidia made a statement saying there will be no 7800GS.
