All cost aside, is there a better 775 processor than the QX9770? I'm refreshing my PC and have the oportunity to pick one of these up pretty cheap, but I've been out of the PC game for a few years and my knowledge is lacking. I'm not looking for the best bang for the buck, just the best bang period (for a 775).

FYI...It's been a while since I've been here. I somehow was able to remember my password  You last visited: 03-03-2004 at 06:43 AM

If you already have a quadcore like the Q9550 you won't notice much difference regardless. Depending on the rest of the system and what you do with it you might want to sell it off and buy a cheap i3/i5 - they can crush a QX9770 under most circumstances.

I appreciate the replies and advice.

I suppose I should have included what my plan is. I plan on upgrading my E8400 to a QX9770. Everything else in my PC is staying the same. I can pick up the QX9770 from a local guy for around $150 so it seemed like a cheap way to pull a little more performance. If any of you have a better suggestion without spending more than $150 I"m all ears.

EDIT: added signature

Edit - NM...I posted a link to a LGA771 mod kit on ebay that you could use with a X5460 for around $60 total, but it doesn't work with X38 boards...only P35/P45.

I actually would consider selling your current CPU/mobo/RAM and picking up an i3 or i5, mobo, and DDR3 RAM. Should come out to the same cost.
