Hello Friends,

Maybe some of you may have some insight on some issue I've been encountering.

I have 2 systems:

5900X/X570 Dark Hero/4x16GB DDR4 3600/750W Seasonic, Powercolor 6600XT Red Devil, 2x 1080p 144hz monitor
5800X/X570 E Gaming/2x16GB DDR4 3600/650W Seasonic, Asus 6600XT Dual, 1x 1080p 144hz monitor
Problem has persisted over multiple BIOS versions but both machines are currently on the latest BIOS as of today, REBAR was always on. Both running Windows 11 23H2. Drivers are exactly the same. I used to undervolt and overclock the memory on both cards via the AMD driver but have since reverted to stock.

To cut the story short, my powercolor refuses to work in the 5900X system but boots properly in the 5800x system.

With the 5900X, Windows will crash and not load, black screen on the desktop and stop working, or will boot but will not properly detect the GPU, with no GPU showing up in the task manager.

With the very same driver, and no driver reinstall, the Asus 6600XT powers up properly on the 5900X machine with no problem. Swapping the powercolor back in results in the problems going back. I was ready to ditch the powercolor and sell it for $20 as defective, but tried on a whim to plug it in the other system, where it proceeds to power on and run properly. Again, no driver update needed.

Right now, I'm perfectly happy with my current solution of just swapping GPUs between systems to keep them both happy... but what would you guys think is the problem is caused by?

Thanks!

mabye the power cable isnt seating properly? is the 5900x boards pcie set to 4 and not on auto, if thats an option.

Try turning off fast boot in bios to give it time to properly initialize the gpu. Fast boot has caused these sort of issues in the past so it's worth a try at least.

There might be a bios update for the vid card, likely with a line in the release notes reading something like "improve compatibility".

So in your list the system it doesn't work in has two monitors, have you tried it with just 1? Just curious if one of the display outputs has an issue.

The cable should be seated properly given I've tried replacing the GPU multiple times but I'll give this a check on my next attempt. I'll try hard fixing it to PCIE4 as well. Thanks!

Power supply in general might be suspect.
Interesting take on this, but how? The other 6600XT works properly with that PSU, and maybe even while underpowered, it should still be able to do the desktop fine? But will try to swap this out soon to rule it out. Thanks!

Will give it a go. Thanks!

I'll try looking for this. Last time I flashed a GPU was in the 6800GT days. Thanks!

I have tried it with just one monitor and no dice. Weird thing is that with the other 6600XT, both monitors work properly. On the other desktop, either of the display ports work with the supposedly malfunctioning 6600XT.
