5900xt $260 @amazon

Same price I paid for a 5800X3D a few years ago 😅.

honestly if your only gaming look for a 5700x 3d or a 5800x 3d

My PC is a mix of things these days. Streaming, gaming and even a little video editing to upload my streams to YouTube. Since I have some Amazon GC money left I could snag this for around $135. I've been researching this since last night and watched on YouTube that Hardware Unboxed recommend the same thing but Amazon doesn't seem to have the x3D processors for AM4 just the AM5 versions. Thing is even though my rig was built in 2019 using 2017 tech I've been very happy with it since. I just figured I could get another 3-5 years out of it upgrading to this CPU as an all rounder part to handle my current needs and speed up encoding tasks that usually take a while. Just can't really get myself to snag one. I know I'll be bummed when/if the price increases or they sell out. :D Perhaps going from 16GB to say 32GB or more may benefit this build but that'll be my next upgrade if I do pickup this deal.

the 5900xt is still a great buy for mix use. I would get 32gb ram as well and call it good for a while

Just got one from ebay for 240-ish for my server. Great chip because it has 16 cores and 32 threads. Its a better buy if you need the extra core and threads
That is bangin!!! Did a similar thing for my server - 9950X for $380 open box in June '25. Before the techpocalypse.

Did they announce the pricing for the re-release of the 5800X3D? I'm just seeing "under $300" or $300 to $400" online which doesn't seem that enticing.

Not yet, hoping it brings prices for the Zen 3 X3D chips down as I want to buy one used later on when I do a new main rig build and retire my 5950x rig to the living room for gaming HTPC duty

Dam. Been wanting one of these to "refresh" the main for a little while longer. Already have 64gb of ram. My 3080 is getting a little long in the tooth too. I already have 3 rigs with 5900X.

Still tho....quite tempting indeed....

Who was it that said: "go ahead, it's only money?"

* aww fuckit, in for one! :LOL:

Check the classies for several 5900X chips!

Mine arrived today and after doing some BIOS updates it works but its a toasty little guy. Always boosts to 4.10+GHz and doesn't go to stock 3.3GHz speeds. Tried running Prime95 for an hour and it thermal throttled down to ~2.16GHz during testing. Running my rig on an Aorus B450M on BIOS rev. 67 and have the 5900XT paired with a Phantom Spirit, case is a Corsair 4000D Airflow. Trying to find my PBO settings or whatever Gigabyte calls it to see if I can unvolt or do something. Ran some GTAV and the CPU fans jumped to max. So I have to be doing something wrong.

I'm told these are good settings for eco mode in manual PBO settings, that or if Gigabyte has just an eco mode 65w setting try that.

PPT = 60W
TDC = 45A
EDC = 65A

Check your heatsink mounting and thermal paste. I'm not personally familiar with that specific heatsink but the CPU should not be getting that hot. In general, the dual CCD CPUs are easier to cool than the single CCD CPUs like my 5800x. Even under an all core load I would think it should be boosting higher and running cooler. Prime95 definitely hits the CPU hard and is a pretty good test for max temp and max power draw but it should not be throttling like that unless there's something wrong with the heatsink or it's woefully inadequate which I doubt is the issue with that heatsink.

Thank you both for the replies. So update. Temps are stable. Still higher than expect but still within the limits before throttling. Turns out in my haste I mounted one of the heatsink fans in a way that caused the blades to clip with what I believe were the fins of the heatsink. I thought I had a bad fan but it was just the way I mounted it. I ran them full speed while testing out fan curve settings and the grind noise is gone. I didn't have to go into the BIOS and adjust anything but I may end up seeing what my board is capable of anyway. Ran Prime95 again in blend mode like before. It seems to have throttled again around test #16 but I read online this could be because of memory restrictions. I only have 16GB in my rig and it was full so speeds fell to 2.75GHz with only 83% utilization. Clocks went right back to 4.21+ after stopping the test.

It has been a long time since I messed with settings like these. I've become complacent with just setting it and forgetting it. I've had this rig since 2019 so I got a lot of mileage out of the 1700x.I believe things are stable now. Ran GTAV turned off vsync and I saw an increase from roughly 90+FPS from my 1700x to 120+FPS. It did go much higher but I'd say 120+FPS was what I saw the most when peeking up at the FRAPs counter. I guess I should figure out MSI afterburner at some point. I went in expecting roughly say 5700x levels of performance out of games and I feel its pretty accurate but again I could be wrong with this assumption. Glad to say my mind went from thinking I would have to return this CPU to now thinking this one is a keeper. So now that I'm not sweating the heat issues I'll let this rig run 24/7 and put it through its paces.

I thank you all for the responses!

I had a 5950x for a while, and it was also toasty at full load. I did some CPU mining on it for a while and that loaded it up. With a Peerless Assassin 120 SE and both fans at 100%, it would boost to 4.2 at stock settings, and the temp would hover between 80-82c in a case with good airflow.

Amazon must have a lot of these and they want to clear out some stock. Not sure how many would be making a big jump like I did but so far I'm am very happy with my purchase. I just wish RAM prices weren't so ridiculous.

I actually got extremely lucky with the timing of this sale. I bought it about a week earlier for just under $310, plus ST, and happened upon this thread by chance. Reached out to Amazon and asked them if they would do a price adjustment, or did I have to return the one I had already purchased and buy it again at the sales price. My initial inquiry was thru their AI "Rufus" which responded that the return & buy route was my only option, but in the middle of that process I decided to start a chat with a Rep and he/she was real helpful. Actually got a bigger credit than what I was asking for, getting it for $249, including the sales tax. I guess they figured in the shipping costs that were saved by simply refunding.

And yes, I've already thanked the OP via PM for posting this deal. :)

Likewise, pal. May be hitting you up for some tips when I get mine all together. This AM4 stuff is all new to me.

you lucky sob

Zen 3 16 cores runs hot so get a big radiator and undervolt per core to get the most out of this chip. I can run a all core clock of 4.7-4.8 on most big parallel tasks with my 5950x.
