Bigga said:should i just get an SLI motherboard and put 2 of the same x700s in.. i know they wont run in SLI but would it support 2 seperate pcie cards?
Skrying said:SLI on the board doesnt work like that. You can simply keep your X700 and buy yourself a cheap PCI (not PCIe) card that will do the job for you.
ashmedai said:Unless specific motherboards are an exception (don't know of any that are but I suppose it's possible) you have to explicitly change the board to operate in SLI mode vs. two cards acting independantly. My motherboard came preset to independant operation, and there's a big block of jumpers you have to change for SLI mode (not that the Ultra-D is officially supposed to be able to do SLI...). I think the Asus board has some funny card thing that you have to flip around...the implementation varies but that's how it works.
Skrying said:Will it they work independantly of each other if they are ATi cards, or if one is another card (say a X700 with an X800, or some other mixture)? I've seen where you can do this and have one ATi card and one Nvidia, but I didnt read or know if you could use it that way to run triple monitors.
ashmedai said:Since SLI is an nVidia thing, you kinda have to run in independant mode with ATI cards. It's generally easier to stick with all ATI or all nVidia video cards in one system just because then you don't have to fight with the drivers. An X800 + X700 should work fine together provided you make sure the motherboard & BIOS are properly configured.
Bigga said:anyways haha back to MY question haha...
the guy im building this comp for is a chairman and CEO of a big stock & mutual funds company in boston. money is NO OBJECT.
im thinking independent PCIe x700's on a SLI board.. so jus for confirmation.. it IS possible to run 2 pcie ATI's INDEPENDENTLY on a SLI board correct?
ViN86 said:to answer your question, yes, if you run an SLI board with two ATI cards they will both offer two outputs (clones) so you can run up to four monitors each with the same display.![]()
Bigga said:ya i dont want clones. the guy is lokoing at wide ass spread sheets... he goes 'im not satisfied with one monitor' lol like he was saying hes not satisfied with1 meal a day or something... i dunno hes def loaded tho...
so ya i know each card will display 2 monitors in clone or sidebyside but i need the 2nd card to display sidebyside to the first card lol... NO CLONE.
oops, yea youd have to get a special vid card. dual vid cards wouldnt be able to do that (at least with an SLI board you wouldnt.... yet. speculation of a driver with such features has been going around for a while)Skrying said:But he doesnt want clones.
