2800+ worth it?

I am looking to upgrade my 1800+ soon, and I am really leaning towards the 2800+. Does anyone here have this chip? How does it perform? It seems like the highest model that is still decently priced, and I don't want to pay more than $140 or so for a chip.

iirc, 2500's, 2800's and 3200's are the same. just set at different speeds. you might want a second opinion on that though. im very positive if you get a 2500 barton, you can get it past 2.23 ghz or whatever the speed of a 3200 is. hope this helps...

i'm running an xp 2800 and i can get it up to xp 3200 speeds (200x11) at reasonable temps, with the stock heatsink and fan, of course soon i'm going to upgrade the heatsink and fan. i think i'll probably be able to pull off about 2.6 ghz (200x13) quite easily.

Not always. Some 2500+'s can't oc for crap because they're only made to run 1.83gHz @ 1.65V But most of the time 2500+'s can oc to 3200+ levels because to fulfill our demand for the 2500+, they re-badge 3200+'s as 2500+'s which make them excellent ocers.

But I advise you not to get a 2800+. Although you still do have a chance of getting an unlocked cpu (because not many people got the 2800+ in the past), it would suck if you got a locked one. The 12.5x multi would get you a very low FSB oc. If you got a 2500+, it would almost surely be locked but the low 11x multi would give you more headroom.

I am looking at the 2800 as well because it's $140.

I really don't want to get a locked chip...so if they're locking all the bartons then I'm obviously not going to buy one.

You do realize you can FSB oc...

I could but why would I want to spend $140 on a chip that isn't going to do much better than the $70 chip I have now?

new egg is selling jiuhb 2100 tbreds for $60 and i have gotten 2 0308. 2nd one is in a friends comp but i got mine running 2.35 ghz 10.5X205 1.85vc till i get better chipset cooling

no way ur 1800 is worth $70 now

Yeah, the Tbred-B 2100+ apparently seems to be the only chip that AMD hasn't locked.

I'm running my 2500+ at 2800+ speeds, and saved a bundle by doing so, I'll run it at 3200+ speeds once I get my new RAM. I'd just go wit the 2500+ if I were you.

There is no point in getting a 2800+. A Barton 2500+ or the BArton 2600+ would be much better, with the former being preferable over the latter.

the only reason to get a 2500+ is if your worried about getting a locked on, so you only have to change the FSB to 200, and you get an instant 3200+...

more than likely the 2800+ will not be locked, as of a month ago, zipzoomfly were only selling week 21's.. it's also nice to know you have a decent stock speed to work on, and that 12.5 multi can help you get the most out of that CPU overclock... but to each his own...
