Looks like we're getting real 5K OLED monitors this year. A dual mode one that supports 2560x1440 was even shown. That is one wish checked off.

Do you mean real 5K 5120 x 2880 or 4K UW 5120 x 2160?Looks like we're getting real 5K OLED monitors this year. A dual mode one that supports 2560x1440 was even shown. That is one wish checked off.
There isn't a single HDR capable 5K display on the market atm afaik. So that. What would be the practical use for a 5120x2880 27" OLED? Even at 4k everything needs to be scaled up on Windows, and in terms of pixel density we'd be way beyond the point of diminishing returns.
At least with LCDs these super hi-res can be used as secondary monitors for productivity, but this isnt quite what OLEDs are designed for.
Im legitimately curious because it does feel more like bragging rights than anything.

Otherwise it's typical advancement in display tech. MacOS users are the primary category who will love a 5K 27" because MacOS scaling system is such a piece of shit that it tends to favor integer scaling.
I agree. 165Hz seemed like enough…until the 5090 showed up.
That will depend on what other advancements the panel has. But current 5K displays are basically only good for SDR content, with no mini-LED options etc.HDR on such a high PPI OLED is going to be insanely dim. The 27 inch 4K QD OLEDs can only match last years 32 inchers even when using newer tech. I'd rather take 4K with all the newest tech to improve brightness further as well as refresh rate increases beyond 240Hz but that's just me.
