19" or 20" Widescreen?

Hello all,

I've spent all week trying to decide whether to buy the Dell 2007wfp or the Hyundai N91W and I'm still unsure so hopefully someone can give me some advice.

At the moment I've only got a XP2800+ processor, 1GB memory and a 7800GS graphics card. I won't be upgrading until the DirectX 10 graphics cards begin to mature and come down in price so it probably won't be for a year or more. I'm not the sort of person who upgrades every six months so whatever monitor I choose I'll be keeping for a few years. Baring that in mind, which option is the better of the two?

19" Hyundai
+ My hardware should be able to run most current and future games at 1440x900 with some degree of eye candy.
+ The Hyundai is half the price of the Dell.
- When I upgrade I'll be restricted to playing games at 1440x900.
- The Hyundai doesn't support HDCP.

20" Dell
+ When I buy new hardware I'll be able to make use of the higher resolution in games.
+ Supports HDCP
- I'll have to run games at a lower resolution or with less eye candy until I upgrade.
- Twice the price.

Finally, if I buy the Dell and choose to run it at 1440x900 or lower, in games, will the quality suffer much?

I had the same dillema recently.

Samsung 20" WS or 19" WS .... 1680x1050 vs 1440x900

I have a 7800GT and an A64 3000+, I dont think I could game @ native res and the 1" was $80 difference.

I purchased the Samsung 940BW for $220 at CompUSA and im quite happy with it.

19" WS is larger than my previous 17" the widescreen is awesome and it even supports HDCP!

I say look into other monitors to meet your requirements, but 19" vs 20" size wize/resolution isnt a big deal.
 
i asked my self the same thing friday, i ended up ordering a 20.1" one soloy because all the 19s i saw the top to bottem res wa smaller then my corrent monitor and the fact that there are more 20.1" good monitors then there are 19"
 
I am completely happy with my Samsung 940bw 19" WS (1440x900). I have a semi similar setup all be it less ram and a slower vid card, but this 940bw plays games well. I say get what you can afford, I went with 19" as I did not think my vid card would be able to handle the 20" native res in the latest games, yours should be able to though. But you can't go wrong with the 940bw.
 
To sum up what Ive read here...


Get 20" if you have a video card to push native res in your favorite games or if you dont play alot of games and just want sheer size and higher res.

Get 19" if your card cant push games at 1680x1050+.
 
For my tastes a 19" widescreen is a little too small to truly seem widescreen to me...the 20.1" ws that I have is acceptable but I will be moving up to a 24" as soon as prices get in the $500 range for a good panel.
 
Thanks for the opinions so far. I'll probably end up tossing a coin as it's been five days since my old monitor went bang and I'm still 50-50 :eek: :(
