What would you prefer?
a 1440x900 widescreen lcd or a 1280x1024 4:3 lcd?
I currently have a 4:3 aspect lcd, but i like to see movies a lot, and i think that the extra horizontal workspace will come in handy.

Just keep in mind that a 19" WS is not even as tall as a 17" 4:3 monitor. I had a 19" WS before this one and it was just too small for my tastes. IMO you would be happier with a 4:3 19"

If you want to go wide, spring for the 20.1"

You've answered your own question really.

There is no doubt about it, Widescreen is the format to choose - and for good reason. The industry have wised up to it and are pumping out WS lcd's hand over foot.

The extra real estate on the screen will be nice, and as you said, you view movies a fair bit. That alone should make the decision for you, a WS will be an altogether new experience.

And once you start using a WS monitor, after just a day or so, when you look at a 4:3 - all you'll think is "...it's so... square....". That's the response I had after using my powerbook for a year, and then laying eyes on an IBM laptop my Dad brought back from work that he was going on about.

For each person it's different, you may be more that happy with a 19" WS depending on your taste and situation. Whilst others like myself, wouldn't think of buying a screen unless it is 24"+. Just test out a few screens by looking at them in the shops side-by-side and see what you feel comfortable with. That's the best way you can go.

I am with Strategy on this one, I have a 19" 4:3 at the moment and took it to my mates the other week who has a 19" WS and the WS looked tiny, way too much height missing.

If it was me I would go with the 4:3 unless you can push for a 20"+ then it would be worth going widescreen.

All right then.
I will keep my 17" a little longer.
And gotta start saving for a 20.1" WS. I saw some of them yesterday, across some 19"WS, and definitively they are the size with the resolution i want.
Thanks for the answers :)

I agree, 20.1" is the smallest wide screen I would use, anything smaller and it's more worth it to have a full screen for the added height.
