I'm looking into buying a 19" LCD monitor (not widescreen) for my new system. There are a lot more than there were before, to say the least. :)

I don't need something for "gaming;" what I really want is accurate color reproduction rather than fast response time. After all, this is a 25 ms Dell I'm typing on. :D

I'm looking at the Samsung 940B; I've discarded the Viewsonic VX922 for the above reason. My price limit is $300. Could you point me in the right direction?

Hmmm....I'm rather hesitant. Although the specs are nice, it's from an unknown company and....I don't want to mess with that. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

So, what about the aforementioned vp930b? It gets good reviews, and it can be had for $299.

Basically, here's my list:

Viewsonic VX922 (I might as well)

Samsung 940B

Viewsonic VP930b

I'll go to a local electronics store and try 'em out. That's probably the best way. Any others you want to add?

None of the Above.

If you want true color accuracy you need to get something with an S-IPS panel which none of the above monitors use. The VX922 and 940B should not even be looked at as far as a color accurate monitor since they both use TN panels which are the worst for this.

The Viewsonic uses a P-MVA which is closer to what you should be looking at but still far from good.

This is the only 19 inch with S-IPS i know of off the top of my head. I will post more tomorrow morning.

I would either go for the Viewera 19" or wait until September when Viewsonic's and Benq's new LCDs come out; ones with the BFI and AMA technology which include HDCP compatability.
 
How can you determine what panel a monitor uses, and is there some site with info on the different panels?
 
I don't need the best of the best. Whatever it is, it's sure to be better than this Dell 1800FP. The Viewsonic VP930B seems to fit my needs. It's from a company I've heard of, has an 8-bit panel, and doesn't cost too much. After all, the best of the best is always expensive.

As for HDCP, it only imposes more restrictions. I don't need that. They can sugar-coat it all they want, but I'm not getting Vista and not an HDCP-compliant monitor. Bye-bye high-definition, then. Fine. :rolleyes:

This is pretty much the master search engine for what panel a monitor uses. It covers all the major brands. It doesnt post soem of the more unheard of ones but for the most part it does the trick. Also if a monitor goes through 3 revisions it doesnt always have the most up to date panel i.e. dell 2007wfp
