I'm idling at about 44C and hitting 56C at load.

I've re-seated it twice with AS5, being very careful with my applications.

What could it be? My thermalright XP-120?
 
Make sure that your application (after being cleaned with rubbing alcohol) looks like this:

Then install the heatsink on top of the proc. The pressure of the heatsink will spread out the thermal paste evenly. Also be sure to note that ambient temperatures play a huge role in the temp of a proc. Are you taking the temp readings with Coretemp?
 
Yes, I applied somewhat in that amount the first time around and was getting pretty bad temps. Now, I put a little more and seem to still be getting bad temps.

What's really suprising is the difference in my two core temps.

36/28? Is that normal?

I have always had great temps on my CPU's, this is really suprising. Speedfan at one time said one of my CPU's was at 71C!
 
I'm not entirely familiar with the mounting mechanism behind the XP-120, but are you sure that there is enough pressure between the HSF and the proc?

I'm not entirely sure, I need to look better. I really hate mounting this thing. Actually, I hate this thing altogether. I should have bought a Ninja. sigh*

I'll check that right now. It seems like i'm loading at 52C right now.

Is it normal for there to be a difference in temps between the cores?
 
yes it is normal... and my 165 is way hotter than my 3800 X2 at the same vcore... what fan do you have on it....
 
Yate Loon 120mm. Not volt modded or anything. It runs at about 1500 RPM's. It kept my 3700+ at about 29C and load at 42C. I assume i'm just not used to this dual core heat.

Edit: I reviewed my installation and thought I had fixed it...but it's STILL loading at 60C. Damnit.
 
yeah the yate is only 47cfm and that is at full RPM... thats not a lot of air... to cool your dualcore you will need more static preasure and more CFM... something like this

its the panaflo M1A and at 7v it is really quite but at 12v it will move 2x the air as your Yate... so get a fan controller and let the OCs roll...

just dont use it with a PWM fan controller it will have bearing rattle... with rheostat it will be fine.. and near silent at 7v


at 1.45vcore with watercooling... TDX-DCC w/ top-2x120 BIP 2 M1As 7v i get 55*C loaded on my 165 so dont feel bad... you just need some better cooling, oh and that HSF is good just get some more air flowing
 
Adionik, what's your case temps like?

You could be recirculating the xp120 air back into itself, grabbing hot air from another component, or your particular arrangement of components/fans/airflow/etc is creating dead spots. ?? A solution could be thermalright's own 120mm duct to connect the hsf directly to your case exhaust (blow or suck).

If you can open up the case and blast the entire mobo with fresh air (table fan?), it should temporarily eliminate the airflow factor.
 
Venm you might be right about the air circulation. I have 1x80mm for exhaust and 1 for intake on the HDD's. I don't like that this cooler just throws the hot air into the rest of the case...

But how can the differences in the cores be so high? Is it because one isn't really doing anything until load? I could understand 32c/34C or 32c/35C. But right now i'm at 28C/35C...

Donno... been wondering that myself :confused: . Actually... 28/35 is about what I have.

Also..... you have a very low speed fan on that xp120. Check to see that it isn't being further regulated down ... can you plug it into the PSU rather than a motherboard header?
