This is a damn good spec. I would get rid of Windows but yeah. This is a good deal considering where we are with PC prices.
 
Valve wants everyone to make a SM clone. Your local Mum & Pops, your stupid uncle and your cousin who have a tech channel and big standard PC builder corps. Beat the spec, beat the price, have rock bottom margins. Valve loves it all. The just introduced a mid low gaming spec that if met or exceeded you are golden when you want to play games that are clearly marked and optimized for it.. If you buy their overpriced hardware they are happy. But really don't care. They have set a standard and will sell tons of controllers and games for every clone that buys into it.
 
I have no idea how many of these will sell but I can tell you this. I did not join the waiting list for one until several days after they went on sale and I just got the email to buy one. It was for the basic 512GB model.

That's because reviewers are stuck between making Valve happy which benefits them, and making their audience happy. Problem is, the audience isn't happy. Who's exited for a GabeCube that costs more than a PS5 Pro, and more than a comparably priced home built PC, and still doesn't come with a controller? Not to mention the performance is roughly equal to that of a PS5.

Maybe if the GabeCube came with a cut down Strix Halo and included a controller, then I could maybe justify the cost. Better yet, if it came with a Ryzen AI 370, but with a significantly lower price tag. The Ryzen AI 370 wouldn't be faster than a PS5, but that's not the point of a console. Consoles should be relatively cheap and easy to use. A price of over $1k should be a huge failure for the GabeCube, and yet the thing sells 12k to 15k per week. Da fuck is wrong with people? As a PC Master Racist I'm telling people to buy a PS5 over the GabeCube. You can even mod the PS5 and fill it with free games, along with running Linux.
 
I can personally say, people like toys. I don't expect me to prefer gaming on it over my main (9700xsd + 5090) or my backup ( might be close, 5900xt plus B580). It's just a thing that is fascinating ( I actually bought a BC-250 and it's running steamos as my toy before getting the email from valve).

That and I have some very weird things I want to do on it.

The inability of it to match other PCs is the biggest issue to me. Like I get it: Consoles are subsidized and Valve doesn't want to do that. You can argue they should, I mean Steam takes a big cut, maybe they should subsidize it with that but it is fine that they aren't. But when you can go to Best Buy and get a better computer for less? Nah man, that's just fucked up. They should be able to match what other brands, who are for sure not subsidizing their hardware, can do.

There's enough fanboys they aren't going to lose money on the project, but I just can't see recommending one to anybody.

However, I won't tell the fanboys not to buy a toy if they want it. I buy plenty of toys I don't need.
