    Help with my OCD

Hello everyone, I am looking to set up dual monitors, and want my next purchase to be a widescreen. Currently I have a Viewsonic VP930b standard aspect ratio 19" LCD, however I have issues when things don't match properly. In these regards, I require a widescreen monitor which will have a...

    Is there another way?

The latest release of Ubuntu has NTFS write support, try booting into a Linux liveCD (it will detect and mount both your drives) and using it to copy the files you need to the new hard drive, then you can safely format it and copy them back. Hackish, I know, but it will work. Disregard, sorry...

    30 days with Linux @ [H] Consumer

The reason "Linux nazis" get all pissy about the concept of "one uber distro" is because we recognize the strength which diversity in Linux has brought us. Many people move away from Windows/Mac for the very reason that they do not like one company dictating to them how to use their computer...

    30 days with Linux @ [H] Consumer

I'm not taking a cheap shot at the U.S. here, but if the States has lost its concept of fair use rights for the consumer, then that is not Linux's problem. Some of us don't live in the States, in countries where it is perfectly legal to watch a movie you have purchased wherever you like, and...

    Bizarre temps on Opteron

No, I'm using a Zalman 7000 AlCu. This is just bizarre, because even if the temps are being reported correctly because the heatsink isn't seated properly, I would expect that under load or not it would still vary by more than 2 degrees.

    Bizarre temps on Opteron

Some new info: When I woke up this morning, after having left my computer off all night, I booted up, checked my sensor in BIOS first thing, and it said 26 degrees... just what I would expect it to. When I got into windows, it quickly moved to up to around 44 degrees, where it is holding...

    Bizarre temps on Opteron

Is there somewhere I can purchase some kind of temp probe to slip in there? I would REALLY rather not RMA this board, as this is my only working computer right now, and it seems to be solid otherwise.

    Bizarre temps on Opteron

I do indeed have the latest BIOS. I have tried speedfan as well as looking in the BIOS to see the temp the motherboard itself is reporting

    Bizarre temps on Opteron

I've re-seated it twice, three times if you count me installing it with the stock cooler first. My thought was perhaps motherboard temp sensor too... *sigh*. I don't want to have to return it though. Actually, that is kind of an interesting note. I have the exact same temperatures with...

    Bizarre temps on Opteron

Recently purchased a ASRock 939 Dual-SATA2 and an Opteron 170, and installed it all today to put it to the test. What I am experiencing is some very bizarre temperature readings from the motherboard. It tells me that the CPU is running extremely hot at around 54 degrees Celsius idle...

    New Card not playing Videos

In what way? They are set at defaults right now. Also to the first replier, yes, all the necessary codecs are installed properly as well. I should have included that in the OP

    New Card not playing Videos

Hello folks, I was hoping I could get a little help from someone who has maybe had this trouble in the past. My roommate just upgraded from an ATi Radeon 9000 Pro, to a nVidia BGF Geforce 6600GT. We deinstalled all of ATis Drivers, then ran drivercleaner before inserting and installing the...

PC too loud! need experienced advice

If the case has the same rear grills as the X-Dreamer 2 reviewed at the Overclocker cafe here http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/cases/X-DreamerII/ then it could still benefit from this procedure. Unless I'm missing something? Ass. ALDY: Setting the side fan to intake, and...
