Ppioruns replied to the thread Disabling Intel ME.Not personal experience, but you can buy laptops with custom BIOS, or open source BIOS like Coreboot, and IME fully disabled. There are laptop vendors out there specialized in doing this. Have not seen much of that going on desktops, though.

I mean ... you can just put Linux on whatever laptop they give you ... if they'll let you do that, anway. This is a good idea. I mean I'm on macOS, but I also run a Windows and Linux VM for work and for testing AI. You can also dual boot Windows... -

I've been daily driving Linux for last 8 years or so, all my machines are Linux or FreeBSD, not missing Windows at all. This PoE switch had two mega noisy fans in it. I decided to give up 1U for this upgrade. I wish I had done it a long time ago.... Drilled a corresponding hole in the case and just plugged this fan right into where the old fan was.
