    Hi Ottman. The IP35-e is a fine board and should serve your son well. The Q9550 is a great chip but you will need to update the bios for the IP35-e. The stock bios doesn't support that chip.

    I am using a Q6600 @ 3.2 (8x400). I can go higher but choose stability over e-peen. My ram is 4x2gb G.Skill DDR2 1000. I originally had some Crucial Ballistix but had some problems with them. I set them ram voltage at 2.1v and loosened the timings to stabilize my o/c. I plan on tightening the timings at some point but haven't done so yet.
