There should have been several wires included with your case. Perhaps one of them (the one you need) is behind the faceplate and you don't see it. There should be 4 screws inside the case that go into the faceplate plus those plastic things you gotta squeeze to get the face off. Try doing...
Yes, get rid of it. You're lucky there are only 4 spots that need to be cut.
If you really need to mount the grille, you could just drill like you said, or use some double sided tape or possibly some JB Weld.
Try plugging it into another auxilory. WHile using my zalman it ran fine off the cpu fan plug, but then decided to not go anyfaster than about 1500rpm.. I moved it to another auxilary port and now it's at 2750 according to fanmate.
