    Solved the issue. The problem was caused by the official detonator drivers from nvidia.com. I think they're version 6693 or something. I changed to 6702 beta and it's working just fine now.

    So it's certainly not because we have defective RAM. I'm pretty sure everybody here can run other games just fine. I'm able to run Doom3 with all the settings turned up, and never had a crash or the stuttering. So I'm pretty sure it isn't the fault of all our collective hardware setups.

    I get the memory reference error only in HL2, but CS:S seems to be just fine. Specs: A64 3000+ 1GB PC3200 Leadtek Geforce 6800 (unlocked to 16 pipes, 6 units with rivatuner) nothing is overlocked :)
