Several years out of the loop and just put together a new rig for some gaming, but really have no idea what I'm doing. Phenom 955 BE processor, GSkill Ripjaw 4GB DDR1333, and Asus M4A87TD mobo.
I've pretty well got everything in the bios on "auto" because I really don't know the proper...
Seems as though the 470 outperforms both the 5870 an 6870 by a slim margin and can be had for $229 after MIR. Will a 650 watter power that thing though?
I've essentially gone with this (except swapping the DVD drive for BR) although I'm still undecided on the video card. My list is down to the Radeon 5870 and 6870 or the Geforce 470. Which is my best bet with this combination of components, and does the Corsair PSU have the juice to run all of them?
I've been comparing the 470 and the 6870 and it seems the 470 is a little faster, but uses up a lot more juice. Can a 650W unit power it or will it require more?
Been on the Mac side for a few years and planning a budget PC build solely for the purpose of gaming. Would prefer to just spend around $200, but if there's a substantially better option for upwards of $250, I can budge. So what's the absolute best option under the 250 mark? I have no allegiance...
This looks pretty good, although after some quick comparisons via product reviews, I may spend a few extra bones for the Geforce GTX 470. Would such a build be straight forward...assemble and boot? I remember some of my builds I'd have to go in and adjust voltages, RAM speeds, bus speeds, etc...
The case is old and beat up so I'm not that opposed to cutting a hole in it somewhere and mounting a big fan or two.
I know in the past the whole dual channel thing was a big deal. Is a single 4GB stick a better route than 2x2, or just cheaper? Any negligible difference in performance?
Does a PC-75 sound right? Huge full tower ATX case. I don't have it here with me and from what I can tell they don't make it anymore, but I think that's right.
Edit: yes it's all 80mm fans. Which I hope to ditch a few of them with a cooler running setup, relative to what was in there before.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming, very limited web browsing, and watching movies
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
Prefer to keep it between $600-700. T+SH not included.
3) Where do you live?
Indiana

I'm a current Mac user looking to build a PC solely for the purpose of gaming. I was once heavily into the building and overclocking thing, but put my non-functional rig in the closet nearly 3 years ago, bought a MBP and never looked back. I now have zero knowledge of parts, who leads the way in...
Dragging this one back to the top because 7 months later, I still haven't touched this thing. Can anyone suggest a current motherboard that's cheap, reliable, and has everything that I need?
I'm currently looking for an affordable, mid-range board for a rig I built more than three years ago. Have the original LGA775 C2D E6400 in it, and went through three (one DOA) Gigabyte 965P-DS3 motherboards before sticking it in a corner and buying a Mac. Finally looking for a board to get it...
Not an audiophile...just looking for circamaural phones that sound good (movies/music), built to last, with a somewhat short cord. Looking to spend $100 or less.
