Resident Evil: Requiem

Welp, thought I could weave some zombies only to round the corner into the fuckin fat dude walkin the halls

3 seconds later the blind girl is screaming in horror as she apparently gets to hear my head be suddenly removed from my shoulders and the firehose of gore painting the ceiling

First death and sweet jesus

I'm going to throw in an alternate opinion and say that the Grace sections have been super enjoyable so far. I like the contrast between veteran Leon and never-shot-a-gun-before Grace. I love the little details that show how inexperienced she is. Like how her hands tremble when aiming a gun, the little shrieks she makes when firing it, and hurting her wrist when shooting the requiem for the first time.

And her voice actor is absolutely killing it! That flashback with her mom... Just a tremendous performance.

The couple of Leon sections I played so far had me laughing maniacally. Between the requiem and the chainsaw he's making beef stew out of every enemy that he runs across.

There's a lot happening in the first couple hours of this game, I'm surprised to hear people in this thread saying that they're not enjoying it.

The Grace section is the survival horror I was hoping for. I'm glad there's a longer stretch of it. I just got to the final quartz or whatever you need to collect.

It's pretty challenging and thinking it's a good mix of knowing when to pick your battles.

It's actually a bit more oppressive than I expected - it seems like everything in this game has a boner for sound and my fighting one asshole that apparently meandered into where I need to be attracts another asshole... and then somehow ropes in the dickhead butcher and suddenly it's pandemonium as I'm running for my life.

Also the sound design is just great in this game. It's super good.

I played a little farther and am enjoying it now. Still think how the story started with grace is retarded though. The pacing seems good, pick the wrong spot to fight and you're going to have a bad time. But most have been easy to pick off so far. And I killed that butcher after coming back around, fuck that guy lol.

Thanks god there's no Ada in this. I'm in the camp that hated Capcom shoehorning her into RE4 remake.

I do appreciate the RE6 references.

Shoehorning? She was literally in the original 2005 game.

The game looks amazing on twitch. The rain puddles and graphics are top-notch. Not my style of game tho.

I wish Nvidia didn't bungle the drivers that were specific to this game. I'm using the last set and it'll run great most of the time (4K with everything cranked + DLSS set to "balanced") but it has random hitches that are both consistent and annoying. I'm going to try to go back to those old drivers per the Reddit thread and see if that helps. Otherwise, I might just wait for fixed version of the real driver.

EDIT: The older driver definitely does help. It isn't perfect, but it's quite a bit better. I went with the 576.88's.

I'm going to wait for a discount I mean Village is only 6.00 on Loaded.com I'll wait a few months.

Went on a crazy excursion and wound up working my way through and killing practically everything in the center as Grace.

Enjoy this surprisingly realistic looking kitchen

Shooting anything with the revolver is very satisfying...

And literally explosively gory

So there's enough ammo? I never know how much ammo I need to conserve in these games. I've been avoiding killing the common zombies but maybe I should just start blasting.

Around the world? Absolutely not.

If you explore everything and backtrack to milk every ounce of blood you can find to craft shit and almost never miss... mostly...

Like I was in and out of every area multiple times, I did not come remotely close to killing everything on my first time through the wings. I killed some, but just enough to make a path if felt I couldn't sneak by. I wanted to make sure I fully explored everything after and that's when I started mopping up.

I was still down to like almost no ammo at all near the end of the section and I feel like I used it pretty efficiently. I think I had like literally 2 shots left after that picture above and just enough shit to craft 8 more in the box.

You can not only kill the butcher too, but also the big fat thing that stalks the halls.

I killed them with the injections, don't know if you can actually shoot your way through them.

It wouldn't surprise me if you could revolver the butcher, but I don't know about the fat thing.

The whole section felt pretty well designed. It's pretty slow going at the start but it flows pretty well IMO.

I'm sure it's also one of those things that you can speed run in 15 minutes while it took me 4 hours to clear everything.

Playing on the switch 2, impressed with the performance. Could have got it for my PC, but figured I’d play through it and then flip the physical copy to save some money. Performance/visuals are pretty mind blowing for being on a handheld displaying at 4k/60.

FUCK the
basement.

I absolutely dread stalking type enemies and this Alien Isolation shit is killing me.

My God this section is bad for my heart. It's not even difficult, just nightmare fuel mechanics. I'm a little bitch and need to save every other room.

Can't wait to pivot to Leon and mulch everything.

Love the crafting in this game

Blood from bucket + bag full of paperclips = handgun bullets

Makes sense
Good to see they are sticking with the 90s (il)logic of crafting. I'd be disappointed if they didn't :)

Switch 2 and PS5 trade blows in graphics outside of the hair. Both are superior to the Xbox version. The DLSS of the Switch 2 really gives it legs. I’ve been pretty impressed with it given that it’s having to do 4k/60, and it also shows how poorly optimized most other modern AAA games are lately.

Has anyone else been save scumming?

I'm finding myself doing it a lot and it's killing the fun. Miss a headshot? Gotta reload my save. Take damage? Gotta reload my save.

But I feel like I have to because ammo is so damn scarce and I can't let it go to waste.

Absolutely no.

What version of the game are you playing?

So I don't know how it works in this one, but in a number of the remakes the game is more or less stingy with ammo drops depending on how much you have. While you can't just go blasting away, you can probably use it a bit more freely than you think. If you hoard it, the game will give you less, if you use it, it'll give you more.

I can't say for sure, I don't own this yet (my girlfriend likes to do scary game Mondays with friends and this is next but we aren't done with the current one yet) but it wouldn't surprise me if it did.

I'm not a fan of graces section. The stalking enemies is just stupid imo. They become an annoyance more than being scary. It's annoying to the point i dropped the game. Maybe I gotta "get gud" but overall it wasn't my thing. Loved the classic re games. Played em when I was young. But these new ones all trying to be like outlast? Nah.

It’s just the same formula of the past couple newer games. I really like this game though because it mixes both the new gameplay and old with Leon.

The older driver thing is legit. It makes a pretty massive difference on my system. I'm still getting occasional hitches, although those seem to be tied to framegen. I turn it off, but then I have to back some other stuff back down to get my fps in to the 110's where I like to be.

The game itself is interesting. I'm not sure what to think of it. It's very feast or famine with Grace essentially playing out the giant mutant baby stuff from Village while Leon thinks he's in RE6.

As far as film grain goes, whoever started adding that to video games (Mass Effect?) should be kicked in the head.

EDIT: Anyone else have an issue where your DLSS keeps resetting itself to "performance" every time you close/launch the game? I can't tell if it's real or just a menu glitch, too. There's an ini file that says I'm set to balanced or whatever, but the in-game menu goes back to performance every time I close the game.

The only section I'm unsure about is the basement.

I could cut this section and not care. It's like... nothing really happens and there is hardly any lore to gleam. Just seems like a filler section that's 95% there to pad the stalker horror with 5% story relevance.

The reason you go down and the information you learn can be summarized in like literally a sentence.

I haven't gotten there yet. I am still stuck at the institute and got a giant baby thing chasing me or some guy with a big cleaver. Little ammo as zombies take like 12 bullets to the head in order to down. So I waste the crafting resources on ammo rather than the injector to blow em up.
