I'm going to build my own L-shaped desk. I'm going to get some cheap counter top and use that. I just have to figure out what I'm going to use for the legs. I should be able to build it for less than $250. Should be nice and sturdy.

..you know...if you care and stuff. :p

I second the Jerker series. If you get past the funny name, and go to an IKEA and see it in person, you'll be impressed. I have three of them. Two of the ones with shelves, and one completely flat one for a workbench/server cart.

Or just go to home depot and get a piece of counter top and a few filing cabinets. It is what I use. 12ft piece of corian and 3 filing cabinets.

IKEA - Mikael Corner Workstation - $129

That is the desk I use, I have a relatively small room so the corner style desk and the large hutch is great. Lots of space on the desk for a deep CRT, it has a shelf on the bottom to put the tower, not to mention all of the racks for papers and the whiteboard. For 129$ you get a whole lot of space. I have plenty of room to have my laptop + keyboard + mouse + 2 textbooks open + notebook while doing work. And once I build my desktop system I will still have space for the desktop + monitor + laptop + enough space left over to do homework. Although this is more of a workstation than a simple computer desk (as the name suggests).

I like how that desk is set up, but would it be big enough in the middle for two deep CRTs? I have two computers on one desk and need to get a bigger/better one, and they both use incredibly deep CRTs. Just wanted to know if that would be feasible with this desk.

I could take some pictures of the desk for you (would have to clean up some of this mess though lol) and would also be happy to take some measurements for you, I know I have a tape measurer in the closet here somewhere. Send me a PM if you want.

Ikea desks are so cheapy. They're great if you want something cheap and expendable, but I wouldn't feel proud of my desk if it was an Ikea. None of their desks have impressed me.

For $250, you could probably swing a higher quality oak L-shaped desk from Bush Furniture, like this one:

This is just the first link that came up.

word of advice goto office depot or wherever you are gonna buy from and try out the desk, make sure you can be comfortable while using the desk ie monitor is high enough, legs fit ... ect jmho tho
