He dismissed safety concerns as a “hoax” that would give China the upper hand in developing the technology. He argued that “the people that say AI is going to destroy the World” are the same ones warning about climate change — which he also insists is a hoax.

The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” Mr. Trump posted on Monday morning. “The Trump Administration has stopped AI ‘people’ from doing bad, or potentially bad, ‘things,’ like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a ‘perfect little angel’ — and we will continue to do so!

“We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!” he added.

Other A.I. chiefs have voiced concerns of their own in recent days. Demis Hassabis, the chairman of Google DeepMind; Elon Musk of SpaceX; and Sam Altman of OpenAI have all endorsed calls for a slower pace.

Beijing, too, has been sounding the alarm. Chen Yixin, China’s security minister, recently warned that the leading A.I. models pose risks to the Chinese system and called for stricter government oversight — suggesting that the country Mr. Trump invokes as a reason to deregulate is weighing the opposite course.

Not entirely disagreeing or agreeing, but China will absolutely say that while pushing even faster behind closed doors, as that Yixin fella has made his distaste of America well known. Of course they would want us to lose the AI race.

I want America to lose the AI race because there is no winning here. So far we've pushed AI expenses onto the American people with the promise that it'll take away jobs, which it has. Not because AI is good at doing tasks, but because companies have used AI as an excuse to fire people. Just look at Flock and how many times AI has made mistakes at innocent peoples expenses. The only way AI currently works if we excuse these errors. Not only that but tech companies want to regulate AI as in they don't want open source LLM.

Tech companies know that AI is broken and are spending trillions to fix it at the expense of the American tax payer. Let China win the AI race so they can put glue on Pizza. I tried using Gemini to change the fuel table on my Corvette by giving it data from a wide band sensor and it changed nothing. The AI claimed it changed the values but nothing was changed. You want to accelerate this junk?

start having an agentic with tool running on stuff like that, ask it in your VSCode session, using GPT 6 and come back to us.

Not sure at the expense of tax payer, they are using cash flow, debt and investor quite a bit, there often a bit of semantic twist to calculate charging less tax that some theorical max that would have never happened as a charge that many use in the pundtry and populist politic, which can be in that direction but quite different.

I'm tired of tribal polictics. I'll be the first one to commend him on many good things he's done. However, jeez he runs his mouth like no one I've ever seen in my life.

‘Big Short’ Maven Michael Burry Argues AI Companies Are Hyping Panic To Cover For Slowing Growth In The Industry

“Let’s all take a moment to understand how self-serving it is for OpenAI, Anthropic and other execs of big hyperscalers to talk of slowing things down,” Burry wrote on X Sunday night, adding:

1. LLMs are not AI and won’t be AGI. There is nothing AI to slow down.
2. Competition is coming up fast, slowing benefits incumbents.
3. IPOs need hype & puffery; “we are so awesome it could become dangerous” is hype & puffery
4. Cover for real uncontrollable slowing growth as IPOs look to be pushed out.

“The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” Trump posted on social media Monday, adding:

The Trump Administration has stopped AI “people” from doing bad, or potentially bad, “things,“ like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a “perfect little angel” – and we will continue to do so! We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies! There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China. WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so. Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers, BEWARE! Thank you for your attention to this matter! The data disagrees. AI gave tech companies an excuse to fire people they planned to fire anyway. Everyone knows they over-hired in 2022 and needed to downsize. Companies that actually use AI are reporting job GAINS due to increases in productivity. I don't buy into the Luddite fearmongering. They say the same thing about every technological revolution because they believe in the fallacy that there are a fixed number of jobs in the economy with no imagination as to how new ones will be created by new technologies.

It's not even this complicated. It's a cover for them trying to get into the room with the government to regulate out their competitors. They wouldn't be the first pioneers in the first industry to do this. Convince the public this is some big dangerous scary boogeyman that only they have the knowledge and ability to control, and get allies in the government via campaign donations or whatever to write into law which companies are "approved" to use this tool and which purveyors of said tool can be used.

Let's see, if I wanted to control the world, I'd say I invented AGI, and then do whatever I wanted behind the scenes. Of course, it'd be a lie, but who would know? When SHTF, I can say it was AI, and that I'm not accountable for what AI does.

LLM are becoming more and more a misnommer for the total system, they are not just trained to predict the next word anymore, they learn long objective with multi-step scored goals during RL where most of the work happen.

GPT-3 was an LLM, GPT-6 use one.

As for competition coming fast. to a point openAI-Anthropic share of the bough token revenues went up has for the slowing growth, combined both company YoY in estimated revenue look like +327% in 2024, +284% in 2025 and +450% in 2026 with the current estimated ARR.

There is hype & puffery, but there is many other self-serving force here, making it harder for new players to come into market being an other one people think about of course....

But more so, an actual fear of strong regulation that hurt them a lot, more than what they gain by making it harder to newcomer to enter the market, a Democrate administration is they will calculate good chance to take power soon, there is a giant social backlash for politician to use to push regulation and goverment control, they would love for an MPAA/self-regulation path to stick and they could be making serious effort.

That one force that pull some, but I doubt that the only one, there is a giant backlash (and upcoming potential political force going at them directly, not just their competitor, they could loose the ability to write those law in way they are net benefit) that they could be actively trying to manage, some would prefer a heavily self-regulated agency in charge, to avoid worse rules scenarios.

If it was as powerful as you are trying to explain then the government would have total control over it and we wouldn't even know it exists.

My fear is quantum computing.

The backlash is the fault of Sam Altman and Dario Amodei because they decided the best way to promote their product was to tell the entire planet that it was so incredibly powerful that it was going to take away all of their jobs and potentially kill all of humanity. That was always an exaggeration and they knew it, but telling prospective investors that you're creating a virtual god was a compelling narrative they could use to raise tons of money. They have no one but themselves to blame for the backlash, and the narrative from the players began to shift a few months ago. It was no longer going to take away everyone's job, of COURSE it wouldn't do that, but you just have to make sure you centralize the control into our hands because we're the altruistic gatekeepers of power and the only people who can make sure it doesn't do something bad eventually.

It can be a strange new tech in that sense, pushed by general demand of the regular people and direct userbase, even if provided by small company at first, instead of a giant or a state top down making it popular.

I am not sure how powerful I am trying to explain in that message, that the public and many in the goverment believe it will be and push for strict rules, that seem factual and already started (or that the classic next token prediction of the original LLM part is just one part of much bigger system now, is also clearly the case). But when you can use brute force and able to write 3 millions line of text in a weekend, evaluate result of hundreds of attempts per seconds, you do not need to be that clever, working really hard can do a lot in life and those system will be really superhumans in that regard.

You can try to write those laws and that despite the cost end up a net benefit because you are big enough to pay for them while newcomers will not, is one strategy of course. There can be also actual fear that those laws could be an net negative, public backlash is strong enough to push those type, you could want to have some self-regulatory system in place to reassure the politic and society a bit, to help reaching measured laws that are net benefit or not too harsh.

There can even be genuine fear that a big AI caused incident will occur and that it would be bad for AI business (even if it come from a competitor product) and want rules to diminish the chance for it to happen.

Maybe, but I am not sure how large the percentage of the population against it even know what they say or even read the title of their essay.

There is 60 years of very negative popular fictions about those products, from the HAL in 2001 odyssey to the closer to us Wall-E, I think how many people experience with the AI of the last 10 years made to grab attention and sell ads of youtube, instagram, facebook and others left a giant build-in suspicion about going even more into the digital world.

I feel AI and datacenter are a clear angle of attack, built over a general sentiment that screens were in part a mistake for many, if it happen when people are still optimistic about interactive web, like in 2010-2012, maybe it play different, specially something like replacing worker considering the demography pyramid and the world worker shortage we risk to have without that happening... but there is pre-built negativity now, we want real physical buttons back in our cars and keep kids a bit far away from a lot of it.

If these AI companies are asking for a pause or slowdown then just do it. There is something fishy with it all too.
There must be some realistic view of human nature in those kinds of things...

A bit like saying to billionaires that argue billionaires should pay more tax they could stop optimising their tax situation or even send check to the goverment.... no they know very well they will not do it if everybody else do not do it also.....

Lot of company do not mind operating with unions worker in some country that all their competitor also have union workforce, but resist a lot having unions when some competitor will not have them in others, that make sense.

With how incentive work, a lot of things require some coordination effort, even external third party if there is no trust.
