so yeah, they are only starting with one game which is that latest Prince of Persia but plan on no longer requiring Ubisoft Connect for any games for Steam users. Personally i'm still salty about "The Crew" and consider that an unforgivable sin. and don't plan on returning as a customer.

Supposedly their stock is down 90% so it may be too little too late? Oh and one other thing, they say they are going to try switching to "ubisoft services" rather then make people use the launcher. but if that's some background service you have to install to play their games, which will probably startup at boot by default, i don't know if that's even any better? and what about linux users?

I mean, the fewer of these garbage forced launchers we have to deal with the better, though I tend to agree that the fact that they were willing to inconvenience their customers into try to force them to using their garbage store application, and only backed off out of desperation isn't necessarily anything to brag about.

for anyone who doesn't know they offered (still do?) coins in exchange for/whenever obtained achievements (even if game purchased on Steam and played through Steam) - and the coins could be used for discounts/purchases in the Ubi app, helped me get a lot of Div 1 DLC and discounts on a game or 2 - don't mind it going away but made itself useful too

If they are cutting it from Steam requirements they may be looking to migrate over to Steam longer term. EA has so far not done that though and have kept the EA App around. I would think maintaining two versions would be more of a pain though, and Ubisoft is likely looking to cut costs. Ubisoft Connect does give you points if you purchase/play games that can be redeemed for a discount on games which is nice, though you can often find them cheaper on key sites. I don't see much advantage to using it over Steam aside from that unless you got the games for free or a cheaper price.

I do have a lot of free games, I think some CD keys redeemed on the launcher, and purchased maybe 1-2 cheap Ubisoft games on there.

No they even say all the data is still piping back to Ubi when using Steam, just the launcher part/UI/user facing part is going away, when only using Steam - if you choose to use the Ubi app at any point you will still see all your progress/saves/etc from Steam reflected in the game still if launched through the Ubi app (same as it is now and has been)

Doesn't seem like they're giving up on Ubi app and going all in on Steam - just being user/platform friendly - they're in a tight spot ATM they can use the good press/user good will
