Want a new phone number on same Gmail account

Need some advice please. I'm looking into getting a second phone for myself, specifically to get away from the stress of work related calls and texts, etc...

I have a great job / career, but holy cow it can get beyond stressful with the million phones calls and texts during the workday, that sometimes bleed into the night or weekends.

I'm not required or expected to take these calls whatsoever at all after 5pm or weekends. As long as I'm available Mon - Fri 7am to 5:30pm that's all that's required. But I still get them and they stress me out and piss me off to be honest.

Was thinking of buying a second Pixel phone or something, and getting a brand new phone number that I would then use this new phone and new number ONLY for family + friends. Which would then allow me to turn off the other phone after 5:30 and off on weekends.

If I do that, how do I go about that? Can I still set this new number up on a new phone with my same current Gmail account?

What are your opinions and options for this scenario?

If you just want another phone number and are not doing this to compartmentalize your data, just add a GoogleVoice phone number to your account. Just go to voice.google.com and create a phone number in whatever exchange you desire. Turn it on and off (or set Do Not Disturb and it will just go to voicemail) as you wish and it won't cost you anything!

Are you asking if can you get a new Android phone, with new cell service, and still login to the same Google account?

Yes. Buy the new phone, login to google, put the sim in (or whatever esim bullshit) and you're good. You might need a phone number to setup a google account, but each phone number doesn't need its own account.

Your just going to confuse the man.

Either get a calling/data sim from google (or anyone) and a new phone, or get a phone/sim from anyone and add a number to your google voice account like mwroobel suggested, then log into your google account on that phone.

You can select which numbers ring on your phone from the voice app.

I kind of like the idea of having actually 2 different phones, to keep everything separate.

And of course get a new number, that will be added to my current T-Mobile account.

But I'd like to use my same gmail account, as getting a new Gmail account would just be a bad move and screw up using services, etc...

Why would you get a new gmail account?

when you set up your new phone with the new number, you just setup the phone with the your same Google account and you will be fine.
You'll be able to access Gmail on both phones with no issues.

That new phone number most likely won't be new, but someone else's old number which is being recycled. I ended up with a number that was once used for some guys equipment rental business. For years I got calls from people asking about equipment rentals, since they still find it when searching on the internet for equipment rentals in my area, but mostly bill collectors, and even cops, asking for the previous owner by name. By the time I realized the number was crap, I'd already given it for jobs and to family. It would be cool if you can get a real new number that has never been used before, but I would try and verify if that is the case.

They should just make new phones that use ipv6 addressing, then everyone and their dish washer could have a phone number and (theoretically) never have a collision.

They're minting new numbers all the time... But it's probably hard to get them. Gotta go check in with NANPA and see where new blocks are being issued and get a number from a carrier in the right rate center...

Or grab a phone number in a new area code, chances are they haven't been recycled yet. New area codes are generally overlays rather than splits for new area codes for the past two decades, so they're wide open, but you still need to find a carrier that's got blocks assigned and is using them.
