If I get nothing else that’s what we’ll have to do, but I may just grab a cheap quadro on eBay so he doesn’t have to tear his new rig all apart to pull the gpu. We all know the PIA that can be especially since he took the time to route cables and everything neatly.

Guessing its more of a 'need to pull the PSU for power as well' issue and not a 'don't want to pop a couple of wires and screws' issue?

Before ordering and waiting for shipping check any local electronics resellers and FB market place, local pc groups too. I had to update the bios on my old computer to use the CPU I had. Ended up finding a guy here that let me use an older CPU to do it. Might get lucky and find someone that can do the same.

Yeah, it’s going to be a nearly complete teardown of the new rig due to the gpu, PSU and the case he has. That’s why it’s beneficial to just find a simple gpu to see what there’s no video out at all.

Edit: neither of us are in a big hurry so shipping isn’t a big deal. His new rig works fine, he’d just like to pull saves and stuff from the old. Plus keep it as a standby for when friends visit. He was going to pop a gpu in it until he saw prices, lol.

I feel ya on the prices. If gpu dosent matter Id still hit up marketplace. Lots of older ones for less then $50 it my area. Didn't work for me as my kid needs a low profile card but for a rig that can do a normal card you might find something cheap

I’m in northern WV so there isn’t a lot of good stuff here, and if I find something decent I have to drive 1-2 hours to go get it. Not worth the hassle unfortunately.

Have to be HDMI? I have a Quadro K600 you can have for the cost of shipping; it's got DP & DVI. Coming from MD so should be nice and cheap.

Sorry to even ask, cause I know you wanted HDMI, but EVGA 9600 GT, has 2x DVI. If you think you can make it work, let me know. I wish I had something more compatible
 
HDMI and DVI are the same electrically and protocol wise, DVI just doesn't have audio and can't support more than 1080p. You can use a cheap passive adapter to convert one to the other (just no audio and limited resolution). They're less than $5 on Amazon, I doubt any of us could ship anything for less. If you really can't find anything I also have an old card at home with a pair of DVIs, but I'm out of town all week.

You can get audio out of DVI-D, I discovered this back during my HTPC/Windows Media Center days - it didn't work consistently for me between installs (could have been user error) but it did work, sometimes

Yep, it depends on the video card / driver if it can stuff audio in there or not. HDMI is kind of the same, some sources can't put audio or it's a giant pain to.

Also, like on my old main rig (current HTPC) motherboard, I have to disable the onboard audio in bios to get audio out/through the video card 🤷‍♂️
 
Does anyone have a need for an external USB enclosure for 2.5" PATA hard drives? (If the AIpocalypse continues, they might become an attractive storage option again lol)

If you're still looking, I may have a Radeon 5450 with HDMI out. Will check tonight. Super low-end, but at least it doesn't require a PSU connection!
