Good idea, but not Op. disks again.

I have about a dozen optical drives, mostly for backup purposes. Only 3-4 in active duty at a time. I use them for music CD ripping. And many of my optical drives are close to 10 years old now. It’s getting harder and harder to source drives, media and supplies. I buy jewel cases and poly sleeves 100 at a time now because I never know when they will go away. CCD scanners are the preferred type of scanner for album artwork and pre-COVID you could get an an entry level Epson V600 at Best Buy for $180. Now no one is making low to mid level CCD scanners anymore and new old stock V600’s are being listed for $600-$1000. Because there is nothing comparable to it below that price.

Things are going to change in the next 10 years, and I don’t think anyone can predict what that change will be. But the pendulum is gonna swing one way or another. Piracy is starting to see a rise across the media landscape.
